You can spend an entire day here. My 2 year old had so much fun! What's really nice is you can purchase the biggest package for her, but aren't forced to as the adult accompanying her. The girls at the desk help you figure out the best bang for your buck, which I appreciate. So for example, she was able to mine for gems, but we didn't have to buy our own ticket to help her with that. She had a mini train ride, a hay ride, mined, played in the mini western town, ride a pony, and fed the animals. Goats and mini horses roam free, which was so exciting for her. She squealed with delight through the "mane" event. Helpful and friendly staff. Impressive gift shop!

We came here for a quick daily adventure for the family and we had a good time. Many different animals to see and interact with while you are here and many nice areas for pictures. They have a snack snack for food and a gift ship as well. We enjoyed the pig racing and animal talent show was neat to see. We had fun and recommend for young children especially.

John D — Google review

Such a fun place to take your kids and grandkids! We had such a fun time! We went on a Saturday and had so much fun! The animals are so cute and seem nicely cared for by everyone. My niece loved the gem mining and played in the sand a while. The petting zoo was great! The shows were so cute and fun. Cameo was the star of the show! Lol. It's nice to see all the young workers all around the park working so hard. The girls in Western town doing pony rides were so patient and nice with the kids. The young lady in the sugar shack was sweet as can be. We really enjoyed the last show and after it, we got her picture with the unicorn! She couldn't stop talking about it on the ride home. We promised to come back soon! Highly recommend this place as a day trip for the kiddos! The gift shop we stopped in on the way out, was nice and had such cute items! Great to find a nice gift or a take home souvenir. Great job LOLH!

I took my kids here 35 to 40 yrs ago. This year I brought my grandchildren. They were older than most kids there, but enjoyed feeding and petting all the little horses, and goats. It was a fun day for us.

Edna B — Google review

A great experience for younger children to see pig races, unicorn /pony/dog show, swings with slide and they have option of buying wagon and train rides. Pony rides are $5 extra. Cafe food was excellent and no expensive! The unicorn show was very well done with lights and music. They space out each program so there is something to do almost every 30 minutes. $41 admission for two people. My daughter rely enjoyed herself!

We had an amazing birthday party at Land of the Little Horses. The staff were wonderful to work with, the kids and adults had a fabulous time. We rode ponies, panned for gems, watched a great show, feed the animals and enjoyed refreshments prepared by the amazing staff. We highly recommend this wonderful adventure for your next party or a daily visit.

Rox M — Google review

Nice day trip event! Not only are there lots of miniature horses, but there's also a llama, camel, zebra, pigs, and others. You get a cup of feed so you can feed the various animals. The pig race is lots of fun. Definitely can't miss the main show in which the minis do a lot of cool tricks! There's a section where you can "mine" gems, take a wagon ride, and ride a pony. There's also a small train ride through the upper part of the park. Only the main show and pig race are included. But the other things aren't much extra. There are picnic tables and benches. Full bathrooms. Also a cafeteria with subs, hot sandwiches, burgers, sides, fruit, drinks. Lots of parking. The lot is gravel but the park itself is paved so fine for strollers and wagons.

Had a birthday party for 5 year old. Sharon was great to work! Very responsive on email and was even able to help when we had last minute changes in the guest list. Our party was on opening weekend yet they still were able to make sure everything was ready for us. Kids all had a great time!!

Nice and cute and a lot fun and the gift shop is adorable but very low shade other than that Ty of the awesome stuff

We had a blast here. So much fun! The grounds were exceptionally clean for a farm that has animals wandering. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. There's lots of room to roam, different pricing options to choose from, plenty to do and see. The animals are tame and super gentle with all the kids. Only downside is I don't live close enough to get a membership and visit frequently. They even offer a summer camp! There's a gift shop and small cafe. I felt all the pricing was fair. Can't wait to go back one day...hopefully soon. We loved it!

Virginia E — Google review

Very cute place to visit for a few hours. Loved the unicorn. It's nice that they have multiple locations for food and drinks. The train ride is kinda only for little kids. Didn't do the wagon ride. It was a good time. My kids loved the main show and all the animals.

Erica B — Google review

I absolutely loved this place! It is better and bigger than I imagined! Me and my husband went, without children or grandchildren. He's 51 and I'm 48. Lmao! Some little horses just walk around the grounds! Can't wait to take our kids and grandkids! Worth the $10 to get in! Everyone will love this place! They even have a camel and "striped horse!"

Tina E — Google review

I used to love going to this place as a kid. Went with my best friend a few weeks ago, a lot has changed. A lot of the animals didn’t seem happy like they used to. There was one horse that just kept kicking and crying wanting to be out of its very small stall. Also not as many animals as they used to be but prices are more expensive?? Don’t plan on returning. Staff is lovely though!

Tori J — Google review

In between all of the museums, I wanted something that would appeal to my 3 year old as well. I was sure it would be a bit of a bore for my 8 and 10 year old. I was wrong. We spent a little over 2 hours here and everyone loved it. The animals are well taken care of and staff was friendly. Would recommend to anyone traveling to Gettysburg with kids.

Cassandra P — Google review

This place wants to have that feel of old school Americana, but it seems like it’s on a downward slide. Our kid had a good time, but a 3 year old will flip their lid over live animals regardless of the setting. From an adults perspective, it seems a touch “Joe Exotic”. The facilities seem run down, some of the fenced in areas are completely overgrown with no animals. The indoor show “arena” smelled like a litterbox, not horses. We saw horses, a zebra, a camel (from a distance), a llama, goats, sheep, a couple donkeys, and three fallow deer from afar. Definitely not all that was advertised and less than that of a county fair.Although I’m not a horse expert, I grew up in the country and know when animals have a good living environment. I unfortunately had to question that here. With some love, this place could be awesome, but it looks like it’s on that brink of no return.

R O — Google review

This is a really special place. The horses are so much fun to see, pet, and feed. I love how they now have Zippy the zebra who has a personality! Mini the horse (who isn't so mini) is another treat. Make sure you sneak around to the back of the pig barn (by the playground) - one of the pigs love to stick her hooves up on the wall and snort. We kept going back to see her do it. The staff went way above and beyond to make it a special experience. For instance, one staff member went into the barn and coaxed Mini out with some food so we could see her. The same staff member also brought a little horse around and tied her leash to the wall so the kids could groom her. You can tell the staff love working there and take pride in the animals.

Marin G — Google review

We had a really good time. The owners and their daughter and very kind and intelligent. The animals are well loved and cared for. I'm glad we took the drive to visit! Rain or shine you can have a great full day here.

Went here for my granddaughters birthday with family. We had a great day. Little horses, goats, pigs, a baby zebra, a camel, and a llama. Lots to see, and kids can feed them. Some are walking around. She loved getting her photo with a unicorn. They perform a cute show. Bathrooms & snacks accessible. A good day trip in Gettysburg.

Historical place museum

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is a well-curated museum in Frederick, MD that offers an immersive and educational experience through exhibits and life-size dioramas. It provides valuable insight into the medicinal treatment of wounded soldiers during the Civil War and how it paved the way for advancements in battlefield medical procedures that saved countless lives. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about civil medicine.

A wonderfully curated museum. Immersive. Interactive. Educational. So much history and education about a unique time and how the developments during this time in history shaped battlefield medical procedures going forward saving countless lives. Friendly, helpful and well-formed staff. A great experience!

Doug B — Google review

Visited the museum twice this week. The exhibits are great. Had some good conversations with Tracey and Dr. Hill, learned a lot of interesting history! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the gift shop has plenty of books to read and learn more. All in all, this is an incredible museum and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Great museum. Learned much about civil medicine

Great museum with very nice volunteers sharing more facts as you pass through. It's very clean and well kept with really nice exhibits including wax figures! Many would find this museum interesting.

Cute little museum downtown Frederick. Staff and volunteers are nice and eager to answer questions. Takes about 1-2hr to go through depending on how much you want to read. The easiest and closest parking is Caroll parking garage.

Vee H — Google review

Small but a very interesting museum. Well worth the drive to Frederick MD.

Spencer K — Google review

Fairly small museum, with some really cheesy looking mannequins, but worth a visit if you're interested in history or medicine. There's some really interesting things to learn about medicine practices during the war and it really makes you appreciate modern medicine! There's a good gift shop at the end as well with plenty of books for history buffs.

Sara O — Google review

Very educational museum. Plan on spending two hours if you want to read everything. Interesting to learn about the history of hospital systems, ambulances, education of doctors, and nursing. Public parking lot in the rear by the library.

Caroline B — Google review

Lots of interesting exhibits here at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in historic Frederick, MD. Most Civil War museums focus on the battles or weapons or famous generals for instance but the main focus here is obviously 19th century battlefield healthcare and medicine which is a unique aspect of Civil War history. The building is easily accessible and features elevators and stairs to get you to the different levels. There is a gift shop with sweet merch. Definitely check this one out!

Timothy S — Google review

You should absolutely make this museum a priority whether you are visiting Frederick, Gettysburg, Baltimore, or Antietam. It is completely worth your time to bookA docent-led tour. We must have asked Tracey 100 questions over 2 hours and she had answers for almost all of them. This was a top highlight of our trip and we can’t stop talking about everything we learned.

Amanda D — Google review

If you are interested in the Civil War and/or medicine, then this museum to visit. It is quit small and can be viewed in about one, to one and a half hours. If you read EVERYTHING, like me then two and a half hours is needed, (keep in mind that I am a slow reader). The museum has some very good artifacts. The information is also detailed and informative. However this museum suffers from what ALL Pennsylvania museums suffer from; mannequins! I have been to many museums in my life but I have never seen such a prolific use of mannequins like I see here. But all in all some of them were ell worth it and added to the descriptions. There are some drawings, diagrams, photos and even mannequins that may be disturbing to look at. So tread lightly or send out a scout. The gift shop could be better stocked with more appropriate items. The last part of the museum has a time line of military medicine throughout history. There is even a mannequin of a modern day army medic; a nice touch. The employees are helpful and the bathrooms are clean. Worth a visit.

John C — Google review

I had to visit a historical location for a history project. I'm a nurse so this location was perfect. I learned so much and the fun layout and design of the area is amazing. There is so much to see and read. They made learning about medicine in the civil war exciting. They also give you a nice little guide to help get you through each section. I recommend for all ages!!

Victoria D — Google review

This was an unexpected gem! Very fun, inexpensive, well made and lots of exhibits. You really need about 2 hours! We came an hour before closing and missed out on about a 1/3 of it.

Absolutely fascinating. Totally worth the $10 ea I paid for my wife and I with a Groupon discount. We were there on Veterans Day so they had some special speakers there. We learned so much. Totally worth it. Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours there.

Downtown Frederick Partnership oversees a 50-block historic district that combines renovated old brick buildings with new developments like Carroll Creek Park. The area boasts a rich display of historic architecture, including commercial, industrial, and religious buildings dating back to the 18th century. Visitors can explore an array of restaurants, antique shops, specialty stores, and museums while admiring the district's murals and public art. Additionally, Downtown Frederick hosts special events such as the Fire and Ice Festival.

Fire and Ice Festival 2023 in downtown Frederick. Daytime pictures only of ice sculptures. There were fire pits with smore stations and ice carving demonstrations. The evening provided more exciting fire baton shows and colorfully lit ice sculptures to enjoy, if you could brave the cold. Well worth the journey. An amazing artistic experience for the whole family.

I used to live in downtown Frederick. Great little town! I visit at least twice a month to see mom and to pick up my packages which I can't have delivered to Baltimore due to the increase in porch pirates. I moved to Baltimore City for work but I'll be leaving very soon again for work.Frederick was also where I sold two of my paintings.Frederick is a wonderful place to live when you want the convenience of urban living but not necessarily the dirty, crime ridden parts of real urban living.

one of my most favorite places! I travel a lot and I'm always looking to find something like this to visit in other cities. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of places like this, we are very lucky to have it here in Maryland. By day you can take your children and find something to do and buy night you can have adult fun in the bars and restaurants.

I'm from Southeastern VA. We don't have mountains there. Or hills...even. This place was radically different from what I am used to seeing. Love the rocky terrain, the mountains, the trees. Wish I had the chance to see the waterfalls but that just means I need to come back! Great photo oppurtunies everywhere. Clean park. Would love to come back soon!

Kristy F — Google review

The 10-15 min hike uphill was a little rough for people with varying abilities, stop saying it’s easy when you’re only considering yourself and ego. I likely wouldn’t have hiked up if I had know there was an easier path to the small waterfall base after recently injuring my knee, ankle and toes. Once up trail you’re basically there at the waterfall area. It’s not as clean as it should be and it’s unclear why individuals choose to pollute other than selfish habits passed on by selfish parents.I noticed a deck off of the hikers path and followed it out to where there’s a small parking area for wheelchair accessibility and that’s excellent! It’s a nice wide deck for easy maneuvering and it leads straight to the fall.If you’re physically abled then I do suggest climbing to the top of the waterfall as that’s where the real view is. Nothing super fancy or crowded, but just some rock climbing fun with steeper areas than others. It does get slippery so be mindful and take your time.Kids should be kept close during the climb as there are sharp, slippery and steep ridges. If you go off the regular path you’ll find some nice flora including poison ivy and oak so look up what they look like before your hike so you know what to avoid. And remember, don’t feed wildlife with chemically human food. Bring a small trash bag with you, pick up after yourself and if it’s easy enough to pick up what others left, then just do it.Do better, be kinder and these lands will flourish with you.

So much to do and what a wonderful place for living history. I had no idea what a landmark this place was and how much there is to do. It's a gem of the area with plenty of hiking, landmarks, and forested areas. Watch out when they caution against rattlesnakes. We saw two up on Wolf's Rock chillin between the rock crevices.

Alexandra H — Google review

Catoctin mountain Park is a great spot with a decent variety of terrain and views. Hikes are pleasant, well marked, and not difficult, and they have free, level 2 charging, in the park. There is a ranger station with friendly, knowledgeable rangers and volunteers, maps, pictures, and useful information. They also sell annual passes.

Nathaniel N — Google review

Comfortable driving distances from Baltimore or Washington DC. There are relaxing walking trails for beginners or people who like challenges. The park rangers at the visitor center are very friendly and resourceful. The facility is clean. Plenty of parking spaces throughout the park which are great. This park is pet friendly. There are also historical perspectives embedded in a few trails. This makes the trip more interesting. The view at several summits are worth of the trip.

Bianca C — Google review

Wolf Rock is underrated! (& of course don't forget to stop by Chimney Rocks ) Definitely one of my favorite hikes in the area, not to mention the park has no fees to get it.

ANNA T — Google review

Beautiful view at Chimney Rock peak. VERY Noisy hike…a good portion of the hike runs along the road. Well-maintained and respected by the masses.

CURLY E — Google review

What a wonderful nps to visit! The ranger and especially a very friendly volunteer shared all types of info on the park, trails, wildlife, and much more on our visit. I only wish I had left more time to explore. I will definitely be back to see more! Free to enter, although there is a donation jar that helps them offset costs.

Mark S — Google review

Peaceful forest with trails of varying ability. Coming in April, the weather was perfect for some mid day hikes while the leaves are starting to grow back. I went during a weekday and crowds were limited. It was nice to see how clean and well maintained the trails were. We also happened to see some spring flowers and a snake in a tree!

Samantha N — Google review

This park is beautiful. It was an easy 1.5 hr drive from Baltimore City, there is no entrance or parking fee. The trails were well maintained with no garbage. The staff at the visitor center were able to give me clear directions to get to the trail that I was looking for, and the bathroom in the visitor center was also clean and well stocked. The only downside was that at Cunningham Falls SO many people were not following the signs that warned that the falls were dangerous, and there were many many young children off the path playing in the falls. All of the signs direct people to stay on the trails/boardwalks.

Audra K — Google review

We visited in early August 2023. Mainly visited because Scouts BSA was holding a summer camp out at the Round Meadow Campgrounds. The visitor center was great. There is a exhibit room with a number of things to read about and look at. They also offer a junior ranger program here. There is a small bookstore/gift shop which sells a number of fun items. The staff was super pleasant to talk to and the rangers as well. There is a place to get your National Park Cancellation Stamp as well as junior ranger stamp. I didn't have much time to spend in the visitor center but from what I saw it was great and the bathrooms were nice too. The parking lot was a bit small but I think across the road there was additional parking spots. I visited on a Wednesday morning where there was only 2 other cars in the lot with me. Make the first right turn when coming off the main road. When I visited again on the Saturday morning around 11AM the lot directly in front of the visitor center was basically full. It looked like there was a hiking group or club gathering there ready to go. There also were 2 electric car charging station/ports in the parking lot. I think they may be the first time I've noticed that at any national park site. I included the picture, I'm not sure which ports they were as I don't own a electric vehicle.I did drive through the park itself to get to the camp round meadow and the park was beautiful. Full of trees and multiple small parking lots on the side of the main road for different trails heads I would presume. I would definitely come back for sure and do some hikes. It's not too far out from the DC metro area.Camp Round Meadow itself was great and the facilities we stayed in were also great. The bunk houses and bathrooms were terrific. Especially from scout BSA summer camp standards. There were also some traffic concerns as a presidential summit was taking place at Camp David later in the week and certain roads were closed off as a result but we did get ample warning. Something to just keep in mind before deciding to visit. There was a increase presence of security as well. On the plus side we got to see a bunch of interesting plans fly by. Everyone liked watching the Osprey with it adjustable propellers for vertical landing and take off.

Sizable mountainous open space with a man-made lake & the largest cascading waterfall in the state.

Camping experience: Clean bathrooms, quiet in off season, great staff. Wood is $9 a small bag. Some sites more private than others. Overall very nice. Not sure I'll return though as trails and lake is NOT in walking distance to the campground. I don't want to drive to do a hike.

Chelsea P — Google review

The falls are spectacular, but the approach to them is on one of two short boardwalks with a wooden platform for viewing. You are highly discouraged from leaving the boardwalk in order to climb up the falls or across the stream or dip your toe in the water. Clearly that's to protect the environment but I had envisioned sitting at the bottom of the falls with my feet in the water.

David M — Google review

Definitely good place to take the kids. I didn't bring mine, but i plan to bring them back. Yellow trail leads you to the waterfall but 'you have to cross the street' they failed to tell us that so we got half way to hog rock before realizing 🤦🏽‍♀️ but Definitely beautiful, well maintained, and worth visiting.

LaMair J — Google review

Great little piece of the world to visit. We had a beautiful day. The falls was nice. The trails were nice and easy to walk. The beach was quaint. Glad we visited!

Tammy M — Google review

Large park divided into two areas, both of which could easily stand on their own. The falls side, features a 78 ft cascading waterfall and a 43 acre lake complete with swimming area that is monitored by lifeguards during the summer. Tons of picnicking areas with grills, beautiful rock filled trails, a nature center, and a nice bathrooms. The manor side features the ruins of an old brick home and a furnace, a place where they made iron. There are several signs for historical interpretation and some well marked short trails that provide a couple hundred years of history from many aspects. This place is great - well worth the 5$ entry fee.

Anthony P — Google review

There is a parking at the trailhead to the falls. The easier trail is about 1/2 mile one way and it is all gravels. There's a slope up and one slope down, with gravels, be sure to wear shoes with traction. If you have stability concerns, walk with someone and rely on them for support. There are bugs in the trails, wear bug spray!! When you get to the falls, there is a short boardwalk that leads to the falls. This is the 3rd time I have been here and the falls is smaller than I had hope. Maybe after a huge rain storm, the falls would get bigger. Think the distribution of water at the top probably determines the size of the falls. If you look closely near the top, you will see several mini falls. It's still nice to see but I don't recommend making a special trip out just to see... Or unless you just want to take a hike and seeing the falls is just something extra. I didn't take the long trail back through the woods as intended, which I did the past 2 times, because one if my pups hurt her leg yesterday and was a little slow today. The trail through the woods was so worth the visit. There are huge rocks/boulders on the trail and you get to climb some. It's a great workout. Definitely come for the hike, not just the falls.

Tilly L — Google review

This is a nice easy walk especially with little kids with minimal elevation gain. You can make it a little longer and steeper by taking the alternate trail that parallels the lower trail. The falls are beautiful. The trail was icey in spots this past week after the rain and sudden drop in temperature but still easy to navigate.

Lilyana V — Google review

We stopped by on a Monday morning in early spring. There were a few cars at the parking lot but we didn't encounter anyone along the way. It was a short and easy stroll from the carpark to the viewing platforms. We decided not to take the cliff trail as it was rocky and not everyone was wearing hiking shoes.

Chris L — Google review

Great place to go hike with some cool views. The waterfall is only about a 10 minute walk from the parking. You can complete the loop in less than an hour. Highly recommend when you just wanna get away. Very quite and well maintained.

Josh B — Google review

Its a beautiful park and we enjoy walking on the trail going to the falls. Entrance is $5 per Car, not per person. They have different parking lot for whereever you want to go. You can choose what level you want to go and we decide to take the easy lower level of the falls which is .5 miles and it was still nice, and you can climb more and choose diff path to take.

JJ E — Google review

Great for family outdoor hiking trip to the falls. Even went all the way to the top with my very energetic 5 yr old son then later he went swimming with the other kids on the lake and went fishing as well.

A great family friends place to spend time. Inexpensive entry fee. Lots to offer! We swam in the lake and even rented a tandem kayak for an hour! The views surrounding are beautiful. Very peaceful here. Clean renovated restrooms were a plus! Also tons of area to spread out!

Great campground. Cleanly maintained showerhouses. Nice individual sites, some with electric, some without. There is a camp store if you forget anything but it was closed for most of our visit.Gives you access to the lake, hiking paths, falls, and quick drive to the town of Thurmont for stores, supplies and ice cream.**quick tip: the beach by the lake gets VERY busy in the summer time on a weekend. If you can manage to go on a weekday you’ll have a much more relaxing experience.

The Houck camping area is excellent. The falls are cute--don't expect Victoria Falls or something. They're a few small but pleasing cascades over one rock face. The trails are easy to mix and match and generally well blazed. It also abuts Catoctin Mountain Park, run by the National Park Service, which I had the pleasure of visiting as well. The area has generally rocky trails with the option to stay mellow or get some elevation (I was looking for a challenge and was able to get about 3500 ft in 16 hrs). A rocky, foresty gem for outdoors lovers.

Lots of great trails for hikers of all levels. There are also handicap parking/trail access areas. There is also a beach/lake area for boating and swimming.Note that due to a lack of rain/snow the 2023 water levels are very low.

Very nice, quiet and many areas to hike. Bathrooms, handicap parking, nature house with turtles and wildlife. Very Very lovely place to visit.

I read an article entitled "Eight places in Maryland you need to visit" which listed Cunningham Falls State Park. It did not disappoint! Although I never found the Falls it was a perfect day. Even the weather cooperated, there was a respite from the typical late August humidity and temperatures. The beach was not crowded at all. There's an area not far from the beach (walking distance) where families were grilling. And the mountain views were absolutely gorgeous!

Jennifer M — Google review

Perfect swimming hole, especially for young children since it's shallow and they have ropes to separate different depths. It's so beautiful out here just water and the mountains and the perfect place to disconnect since none of the family had cell service the entire trip. Believe it or not the kids didn't loose their minds not having service and thats how you know we all had a great time! Lol definitely recommend but plan on arriving early as they do fill to capacity. They have beautiful picnic areas and surprisingly clean bathrooms. The north side has a concession stand we all had funnel cake fries they were absolutely delicious they also have a playground but we were too busy fish watching in the water! They have kayak rentals as well we just didn't get a chance to check that out definitely next time

Brittany J — Google review

Very pretty trail to hike to the falls. Some areas were a bit steep, and there were wide steps in the hillside. The boardwalk takes you to the base of the falls. However, you could walk past the walkway and hike uphill to the top of the falls. Large rocks to climb, so wear appropriate hiking shoes. Road noise due to the road being nearby. Be cautious, crossing the road!

The Pennsylvania Dutch Market is a charming hub of mainly Amish-owned merchant shops, offering a wide array of goods and delicacies. From freshly baked goods to cooked meats, popcorn, pizza, chocolates, fudge, bulk candy, pretzels, salads and sides - the market has it all. Visitors can indulge in delicious salted pretzels and generous portions of pulled rib sandwiches.

OMG! This is one of my favorite places to shop for food both prepared and things to prepare at home. It is really dangerous for me to visit. The bakery is just excellent. My favorite pies are the raspberry, chocolate cream, pecan, and caramel apple but they have all kinds. I bought some of each that I mentioned, half and single slices. A nice place to sit and have lunch, delicious home cooked food at a reasonable price or carry-out. We also buy cuts of meat. They are only open Thursday thru Saturday. Check it out if you find yourself in the area.

This place is amazing. It’s a typical PA Dutch Market. There’s a huge selection of fresh baked goods as well as cooked meats, popcorn, pizza, chocolates, fudge, bulk candy, pretzels, salads and sides! They take credit/debit cards here as well. Got a salted pretzel, and it was DELICIOUS! Reminded me of the Auntie’s Anne’s pretzels you get at the mall, but way better! No wonder there was a long line, but highly worth the wait! Got a pulled rib sandwich, and the portions were HUGE, and was very delicious! The smoked brisket here from the meat vendor was amazing as well! Everyone who helped behind the counters were friendly and smiling. I love this place, and will definitely be back to try more items! Parking can be a bit hectic on the weekends, but it’s because they’re packed on the weekends and for good reason, because this place is awesome!

If you're traveling? Get. Off. The. Highway. Now. Gifts, a market, and a giant food court with awesome choices. Everyone can get exactly what they want. There's a place to sit and eat. Grab dessert on the way out. You will not be sorry. Wonderful find. ❤️

My first Dutch Market experience and it was great. The people were so nice and the food was just awesome. I have a nice chicken bites with veggies lunch and ice cream for dessert. Got some apple bread to go with my coffee when I get home. This was a true experience and if you’re ever in Hagertown, Md you have to stop bye.

I love going here. My friend told me about this place and I'm hooked. I just recently went to the pork and ox roast and ate the oxtail. It sounds horrible, but let me tell you it was delicious. My sister got the pork sandwich and really liked it too. Our sides were good as well.

Sherrie K — Google review

If you are looking for fresh baked breads and foods this place is a must stop. Absolutely hated that each station had their own check out. We stopped and got chocolates and we had some cheese , we could not pay for them together. Had to get in another line near the cheese. Great place except for that. It was packed full!

My grandma loved the treat I brought home for her (coconut bon bons) and I was impressed with how much there was to look at! Definitely worth a trip!

WOW! What awesome, all cooked on the spot in front of you, food items!, except for all pre- wrapped items such as candy, spices, honey n w/comb, pure maple syrup!Kind of pricey but as you're walking thru deals are offered for specialty items! They have a little food court with little miniature restaurants inside! Lots of seating as well! They even sell furniture and chimes (big to small)! Just a really cool place to spend an afternoon looking, purchasing and eating! *You'll need several trips to explore all the excellent foods offered! Loved the experience! I totally recommend going cuz I'll definitely be going back!Awesome job Pennsylvania Dutch Market! May Our Good Lord continue to bless your establishment!

Suck a beautiful walk to experience. Park and walk down a few levels of steps, a winding walkway, then make your way across the bridge to find an array of monuments. Stop and read the informative signs and learn about the bridge. Be prepared to have some burning calves of you're not used to walking a lot of steps or hills!

Great little slice of history! Well maintained and properly presented.

Antietam, MD has been on my bucket list so this September’s family reunion I promised myself a visit on my way back home! The history is extremely sad and the energy is still that feel. This Bridge was beautiful, calming and very pretty. Also included a NY Monument.

Lori B — Google review

A beautiful and historical landmark on the Antietam National Battlefield, Burnside Bridge is a well preserved landmark. The large sycamore witness tree on the north east side of the bridge is also another site to take in while visiting this area. The bridge area is easily accessible from the parking area on the bluff over looking the bridge from the west side.

G. F — Google review

The Burnside Bridge is a memorial preserved to honor the men who fought and died here defending it. Nicknamed the Creek of Death.Walk across it, to your left and right are landmarks, memorials describing its story. If you walk to your right along the river there is a headstone memorial just up on a ridge with the names of the men who fought here (pictured). You can then continue on a small trail to your left across the ridgeline. At the end it links up to a network of trails that go to other areas of the park. They just built a brand new walkway here from the parking lot and there is wheelchair accessible parking as well.

Phil D — Google review

An awesome place to visit. Parked on the Confederate side. There was some construction/restoration going on at the time. That side had a very commanding view of the terrain. Not surprising that it took three attempts for the Union to take the bridge.

Jonathan C — Google review

I've always dreamt of visiting this famous battlefield and I've finally made it. The amount of blood that was shed on this bridge alone is humbling. A beautiful bridge and monument in this battle.

Andrew P — Google review

Burnside Bridge is a must-stop while visiting Antietam. Your first stop must be at the Visitor Center. Pay your entrance fee to help support this historic place. Then you get a map and watch a short and informative video on the story of this landmark battle. You can walk the trails or drive around. You definitely want to allocate several hours to see all the sites.

Chris T — Google review

It's amazing that this beautiful place was once a site of such carnage and horror. It is so wonderfully preserved and a great spot for a little hike or afternoon picnic. Thank you to those who sacrificed everything so that we can enjoy this sacred space. And a special thanks to Oliver and Izzy for a strenuous bike ride up those long, steep hills. Aren't you glad your parents drag you on these little adventures?

Matthew L — Google review

First time here, it's a beautiful place with so much history if you like history you will love this place.

Eddie M — Google review

Known at the time of the battle as the Rohrbach or Lower Bridge, this picturesque crossing over Antietam Creek was built in 1836 to connect Sharpsburg with Rohresville, the next town to the south. It was actively used tor traffic until1966 when a bypass was built and the bridge was restored to its 1862 appearance. For more than three hours on September 17, 1862, Confederate Gen. Robert Toombs and fewer than 500 soldiers from Georgia held this imposing position against three Federal assaults made by Gen. Ambrose Burnside's much larger Ninth Corps. Confederate General James Longstreet wrote of the action, "Gen. Toombs held thebridge and defended it most gallantly, driving back repeated attacks, and only yielded it after the force brought against him became overwhelming and threatened his flank and rear.About 1:00 p.m., with Union soldiers crossing downstream and another attack made on the bridge, Toombs and his men were forced to retreat. However, the strong delaying action provided the much needed time to allow Gen. A.P. Hill's Confederate soldiers, marching from Harpers Ferry, to arrive on the field.

Historic site of the famous 1862 Civil War battle features tours, interpretive programs & park land.

21,000 dead in America's deadliest one day battle. The visitor center is under construction so you have to go to the temporary site. It does have a good movie though.. as I drove and stopped at the 10 tour stops I walked in the sunken road or as it's called BLOODY LANE. When there climb the tower and get a good look at the battlefield. The go to Burnside's bridge to look at history over a peaceful stream.

Moving R — Google review

Fantastically preserved battlefield. I stopped on a Sunday, got my passport stamp and decided to do a self guided tour following the easy to locate signs along the roads throughout the park. The visitor center was under construction but the temporary one was just as good. I spent nearly two hours at the park but needed much more time. At least a day to see everything and probably longer to actually walk the many trails they have. I will be making my way back again as soon as I can to this wonderful park.

Nick S — Google review

Beautiful area with lots of sad history. At the time of my visit the visitor center was still being built. They do have a temporary with a small selection of souvenirs and some rangers on duty. They were friendly able to square me away with a military park pass. The auto tour is easy to follow and takes you past all the monuments. Each stop has lots of placards with battle and Army unit information.Added bonus: today I learned that Antietam is the birthplace of the Red Cross. See the added photosphere.Definitely a place worth checking out.

Matthew B — Google review

Beautiful spring day to come out and take a tour of the battlefield. It happened to be National Park weekend so the entrance fee of $20 was waived for visitors. The self guided driving tour is clearly marked on the map that you can pick up at the visitors center. Then follow the signs in the park and stop at the numbered plaques to see monuments and locations of pivotal battles.

A. W — Google review

We have a National Parks Pass so decided to try this park out (normally $20 a car). The permanent visitor center is under construction so they have a temporary center that is about what you would expect (ex. the "theater" showing the movie is now a TV and folding chairs) - IMO the only real reason to stop until the new one is ready is to visit the gift shop or bathroom....and apparently to voluntarily pay your park fee? I stopped in to show my card and get the map, but I never showed anything to anyone anywhere and never saw any park personnel outside the visitor center. That said, it was the first Monday in March and maybe saw a total of 10 people in my whole visit, which was lovely in and of itself. So, IDK, I guess a certain type of person loves these battlefield sites, and it isn't really me. I definitely appreciate the preservation of the park and having the undeveloped land. They have a handful of decorative cannons thrown about and LOTS of plaques about General XYZ attacked this direction at 7AM type stuff, but other than that, not sure what a tourist does here (particularly if you have kids to be entertained, god help you). I suppose this is for war buffs and people super familiar with the battle details. Of course, the cemetery is a deserving memorial to the incredible number of lives lost. The land is pretty in this area with rolling hills and distant mountains, so I took a lot of the hiking trails (which were marginally marked, didn't match the trail path on the map, and most of which just walk through open fields) and still had done everything in 4-hours. Overall I am happy we have the NPS and while this park isn't one of my favorites for revisiting purposes, I am sure there are others who enjoy it.

Jason Z — Google review

A must visit for American History enthusiasts! Definitely worth the $10 price of admission. There are many monuments dedicated to troops from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, etc. and just a handful of Confederate monuments. Antietam reminds me of a smaller Gettysburg which is a good thing because the landscape isn’t overwhelmed with too many monuments and memorials. The visitor center was in a temporary building as the new visitor center will be up in the fall of 2022. They have a Junior Ranger program for the kids. I’d recommend at least two days here but a lot can be covered with the driving tour. The battlefields are very well maintained. Make sure to visit Burnside Bridge and the Observation Tower!

TPS — Google review

Went on a Friday, rangers and staff were so helpful and friendly. Pointed out many different things to see. Self guided auto tour was very easy to follow. Temporary visitors center is adequate, but the new center looks like it will be wonderful! The stops along the tour are very well maintained. Whole tour gives the scope of the bloody battle that took place here. Loved going up the observation tower to look out over everything. Well worth the $10 per person/$20 per car admission, plus it's good for 3 days!

Mark S — Google review

I've been visiting this historical landmark since I was a child, and now I take my kids here for a history lesson. It's such a beautiful, but haunting place, full of educational resources, landscapes, beautiful statues, and memorials for the fallen soldiers. It's definitely one stop you shouldn't miss. The 4th of July was always a great time, with the free fireworks show and orchestra. I'll always be back.

Tara T — Google review

This is a favorite hike for my children and I. Many different trails for different skill levels, including paved roads to cruise through the park or for handicap accessibility. Plenty of parking. Yours available. Recently remodeled visitor center. Lots of historic sites to see and things to learn.

Ashley G — Google review

Wicked piece of history for everyone to visit and enjoy. A must see for any American who wants to learn about history or any history buffs. It's also beautiful nature fields now too. So many historical sites to visit and plaques to read and learn more about American history. Hours of endless fields to walk around and cannons and buildings to explore and read about. Free to visit and for everyone to enjoy :)

Dane M — Google review

Excellent. To be able to walk the fields as they were for the most part is awesome. Being here puts a lot more perspective on the actual battle as far as the terrain. I had no idea it was so hilly and wide open. The ranger staff was great. They helped me figure out the accompanying videos online for some of the stops.

Brian S — Google review

We arrived and stopped at the temporary visitor center. There is construction at the real visitor center but the temporary one was laid out very well with a gift shop, maps, displays , a movie presentation , and friendly informative park rangers. & rest rooms. We started the auto tour and listened to the app ( qr code can be scanned in visitor center) at each tour stop. We started at the Dunkin Church. You can go in and look around. We continued to the rest of the tour stops. This is a very interesting tour and the videos for each stop really gave a lot of info. Excellent views and scenery. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to see all the stops and listen to the videos. Great preservation of history. ( entry fee was $20 for one car and was worth it).

Tammi J — Google review

There is a tempo visitor center at the moment (6/22/23) while they remodel the original building. Enjoyed the starting video and we spent a little over two hours on the driving tour. Loved the view from the tower that was built.

Eileen A — Google review

This park was great. We were there yesterday and it was the first day the new park office was open. It was really well done and a very nice building. We enjoyed the exhibits and the movie, and the park was not busy at all. Then, we came back in the evening to walk the paths, take pictures and see the park. During that part of the trip, we saw 2 other cars the entire time. It was a very nice visit and we would definitely come back.

Steineld 8 — Google review

Really good location for a day trip. Lots of historical monuments and placards to give historical relevancy to all the locations on the tour.Such a beautiful area it's hard to reconcile it with the fact that it used to be such a bloody battlefield.

Louie H — Google review

We loved our visit here! Visited on a cold windy day in January, but the whole family found things they enjoyed exploring and learning about (Inc. Clara Barton info, where soldiers came from to serve, the bridge and tree that was there during the fighting)

Jen P — Google review

Great place of history. So surreal of a place. To imagine that so many died for what they believed. It's hard to believe that so many men fought and died in such a small area.

Mark A — Google review

Fantastic experience! The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The grounds were well kept. I especially enjoyed hiking the Cornfield and West Woods trails (unpaved). Really gives a sense of what the soldiers faced in terms of terrain during the battle. The gift shop was small, but good. Very good selection of books considering the size of the shop.

Derrick F — Google review

Such a neat place with such an important history and not nearly as busy / crowded as Gettysburg. We didn’t have as much time as I would have liked - we spent 2 hrs- could have easily doubled that. The visitors center is quite small, but very interesting. Not to mention the drive to get there is absolutely beautiful.

Amy L — Google review

Great battlefield to visit! Very well preserved and fantastic views and backdrops. The audio tour is great, however cell service is very scare in places so that made preparation from stop to stop slightly challenging. You do have to pay to visit this battlefield. Its kind of odd and unless you do your homework ahead of time, you wouldn't know that very easily. You have to stop in the visitors center and play the honor system to get a ticket. Not sure how that's regulated since there are several different entrances to the battlefield. Regardless, its worth the admission and it goes to keeping the battlefield in the great condition you see it.Be prepared to take lots of pictures and spend some time getting from stop to stop around the battlefield. Even though its a lot of steps, it is absolutely worth going to the top of the tower. The view is incredible up there!I visited in the spring time, but I would have to assume its one of the prettiest places in the country during the fall.History fan or not, its a place worth seeing for what impact it had on our country!

Woodland nature trails & campgrounds around 2 show caves with crystals, stalactites & flowstones.

One of those great places that you used to visit as a kid with your parents. The caves were amazing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The staff was super friendly. Also as a tip, totally worth it to splurge for the kids to do the panning for gems. Loved it.

Michael P — Google review

This place was really fun and educational. My family and I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful cave formations. The guide was friendly and very informative and made the walk even more enjoyable. Definately a go see, especially on a really hot day as it was about 50° down in the caves on a 85° summer day! So make sure to bring a coat and don't wear shorts😁 My youngest daughter also really liked panning for semi precious stones with a bag of sandy dirt you can buy. She found about 25, 30 small stones that included, quartz, pyrite, and several others that are now a keepsake of the trip.

B. ( — Google review

We went here over the weekend. Caverns were awesome to checkout and see all the formations. My kids liked it but had a hard time staying still. The tour guide Zack was really nice and informative. He was also understanding about our kids being a little loud etc. They have gem mining there as well. My kids loved being able to pan for gems. There are two different caverns you get to tour. Some spots in cave are a little low/closer together which is fun bc it feels like you are actually going on a real cave adventure.I would definitely recommend these caverns.

Our tour guide was great, very informative. This was our second time and we still picked up new facts. It's a beautiful cavern with lots to see. Definitely a fun activity to do with your family.

We took the evening Blacklight tour. Mike was thr best guide. Giving an awesome history of Linclon Cave and expert science lesson. I would absolutely recommend this place. The black light tour might not be the best for littles (under 9), bit this is definitely a cave to bring kids during the lighted tours. 100% will return.

Jacob M — Google review

The quick review: My family and I loved it. I drove by this place for years always meaning to stop by and a couple of summers ago I did. It was mid week and a little later in the day. There was ample parking and not a far walk to the gift shop. While not expecting a huge crowd, I was surprised that we were the only ones there and we just missed a tour so we had to wait a while in the gift shop, which by the way had a lot of cool stuff my kids bought, and not expensive. When our tour started, we were the only ones on it. The tour includes two caves, both of which had some of the coolest formations I've ever seen. Like all caves I've visited so far, it was nice and cool inside even though it was sweltering outside. The tours lasted long enough that I felt I got more than my money's worth but not so long that we got sick of it. I would stop back again if I were in the area.

We took our niece and her family to see this beautiful natural wonder on 4th of July. We realized we were going to be late for our tour so we called and they kindly moved us to a later time. Obviously, this is only possible if they’re not totally booked. I recommend booking the tour ahead of time online - they take Apple Pay. They do accept walk ins and you can call on your way to find out their availability. Our 8 year old great-niece was enthralled, as were the children (ages about 6-11?) in the other family on the tour. Us adults were impressed as well. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our guide, Zack, was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and kind, especially with the kids. He made the tour fun and interesting, and inspired me to me to write a review, which I don’t usually do! The tour was about 90 minutes, mostly because we took our time and asked lots of questions. I think you can do it in an hour. The store was full of good quality memorabilia and gifts. Our great-niece panned for gems for $6 and got a decent size bag. Here are some things to note:Food: Store has snacks, ice cream, candy and drinks. No restaurant on site.Bathrooms: Clean, nice facilities on site.Parking: Easy and plentiful. What to wear/bring: Sturdy walking shoes - caves are damp with steep stairs and uneven ground. Sweatshirt - temperature is a constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Don’t bring your big bag or backpack as there are some tight spots.Note that the caverns are not handicap accessible - the natural pathways are too narrow and steep for ramps.I hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!

Beth H — Google review

The caverns were very cool, the guide was patient with our group of rowdy 5th graders and super informative.I expected it to be colder than it was and I was concerned about slipping and falling especially for my daughter who has some difficulty with rocky or slippery terrain (anything uneven and unfamiliar) but she was fine as long as she took it slow and easy.

Ashlee U — Google review

My daughter and I, visiting from rural Wisconsin, were ready for something to do away from the big city. Laurel Caverns filled the bill! From being patient with us over the phone when we thought we may arrive late, to the knowledge, humor and patience of our tour guide, the whole experience was top notch. The length of the tour was just right. We were cautioned about potentially tricky spots, and many interesting features were pointed out. The tour guide was very interactive and made it a fun learning experience for both young and old.I now know about cave crickets, cave bacon, cave popcorn, cave beads and soda straws! The gift shop had lots of unique, cute items representative of the caves, bats, gems and much more. While it was too chilly to explore much of the surrounding grounds, it was neat to take the short walk up the hill to see the sink hole where the second cave was first discovered. If you're looking for something different to do, and maybe even learn something, look no further than a tour of Lincoln Caverns.

The kids loved it. The tour guide was very nice and gave lots of interesting information.

We went for the Ghost and Goblins Tour. It was an enjoyable experience as it was something different. I loved all of the Halloween decorations. It isn't super scary if you are someone who doesn't like scary stuff. Just a lot of people jumping out at you and screaming. There is a lot of walking. I would have loved more time in the cavern, but it was still a lot of fun! You start with the haunted cavern tour in which you go to different parts of the cavern and actors entertain you with Halloween type stories. You then go through the haunted trails which is very dark and doesn't have a lot of light. They have various Halloween decorations and people jump out at you. You then go for the hay ride which lasted about 20-25 minutes. I loved how they played spooky music! People with masks on do come up to the wagon and bang on it and scare you as well as jump up on it. Overall an enjoyable experience!

This was a challenging but rewarding activity for our young group of explorers. It is a beautiful tour and a lovely reprieve from the hot weather. The lights out portion was memorable. Then the kiddos aged 1 to 9 thoroughly enjoyed the panning for gems in the water. Everyone loved the gift shop and we appreciate the patience of the tour guide Shawn and the staff as little hands and heads made big decisions. Would recommend for quality family time.

Laura H — Google review

Took the tour. Our tour guide Alicia was knowledgeable and informative. Very suitable for young kids and the tour is just the right length. The gift shop is cute and reasonably priced. We called twice over the phone with questions they were kind and patient helping us figure out our visit. Recommend.

Jenn G — Google review

We have been to many caves and I should preface this review by saying perhaps I’m more of a purist then I ever thought - we were surprised to see the inside of this cave and sadly so- we were there when they decorate the caves for their Halloween events- the idea of leave no trace was pretty much out the window- it doesn’t matter how careful you are with those stalactites and stalagmites, human contact will impact caves. The dolls, knives, plastic snakes, all the ridiculous decor really took away from the experience and my younger children were pretty frustrated with the tampering of an inner cave environment- perhaps we should have made a donation to cave preservation -I tried to take my pictures around most of the decor and focus on cave formations but it was a bit tough to do with so much of it everywhere

Emily Y — Google review

I took my family here. We all had a very good time. This was our first time in caverns. So we dont have anything to compare it against. Bella was our guide and she did an excellent job telling us about the history of the caverns. She also made sure to get the children involved. I ordered tickets ahead online. We were originally to have a group of 6 , but one was not able to come along. They refunded me no problem even though online it says no refunds. I would recommend this if you are in the area, especially if you have never done it before. Very cool. Im ready to see more caves now.

A great pit stop on our way home to Pittsburgh. The gift shop was big with lots of interesting souvenirs and more. The actual tour had two different caverns! The stairs and hill were a tad tough on my bum knee, but the walk is slow and the guides are patient. Great stories to go along with the incredible formations. Recommend. Price was in line with other cavern experiences.

Krista C — Google review

I've been wanting to explore this place for a long time now, and it did not disappoint. To start, the gift shop is pretty big and has a variety of everything from candy to gems to apparel. All of the employees I interacted with were so nice, especially our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the caverns and interacted really well with the group, especially my 6 year old son with his vast curiosity. The caverns themselves were huge and did not disappoint. The 52 degrees inside was refreshing, even with the weather not being extremely hot the day I went. My favorite part was seeing the calcite in the blacklight, and my son had a shirt and shoes that glowed under it, so that was really cool for him. All in all, this is a great experience for any age in my opinion.

Tunnel

Sights & Landmarks

The Paw Paw Tunnel is a canal tunnel located in Western Maryland that was opened in 1850. The tunnel features a long towpath trail and brass plates that explain its history, making it an excellent location for those interested in the history of the C&O canal. Currently, there is construction going on at the site, but visitors are still able to go through the tunnel with caution as it is boarded up except for one small opening.

Great trail! Very flat so good for biking, not as much for hiking more of a walk. The tunnel is really neat but super dark in the middle. Bit spooky if alone. Dog friendly!

Kelsey — Google review

This was a very cool hiking trail that led you straight down to the tunnel. The tunnel is pretty chilly and super dark. Make sure that you have flash lights, especially if you have children. The path is pretty steep but a nice short walk.

Josh B — Google review

My son has been working on a Maryland history project where he has to take pictures of himself at multiple historical sites in Maryland. We were in Western Maryland and stopped at the tunnel. There is a significant amount of construction going on there right now. There is a detour near the Towpath but you can go through the tunnel. The tunnel is boarded up except for one small opening for a door. Make sure you bring a flashlight because it is especially dark with the openings being boarded. This is a great site for the history of the C&O canal. Take some time to look at the significance of it before you arrive

Matt R — Google review

We did a short hike here during the weekday. The site is under construction, but we were able to park easily and walk up to the tunnel. Because of the construction we had to turn back at the end of the tunnel. A few notes to expect: Inside the tunnel is 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Once inside the tunnel it gets dark. We were the only ones there as it was a weekday and we had to use our phone flashlight to see. We then hiked around the area and there are some stunning views of the river if you go up and around the tunnel. Overall, fun place to check out.

Michael P — Google review

Really cool to walk through. The hike is great exercise too. I recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight, although your phone light is enough just to walk through.

Brandy B — Google review

Fun family activity. My recommendation is to park in the lot designated for the tunnel and not go to the area up the mountain where you can hike down. If you park in the lot by the canal, it is an easy walk to the tunnel. As a family, we choose to walk through without any light assistance so the kids could experience the total darkness. They loved it! On the way back some other groups had flashlights and were shining them directly in our faces, so just to be aware of that if you do take a flashlight and come upon others. It is out of the way, and a neat experience that we are all going to remember for a long time.

EJ B — Google review

Waze takes you past it and up to a farm that is private land you will see a sign off on the main road and it's a little hidden turn. Also the area is under construction so a lot of the trails were blocked off.

Jrow S — Google review

Easy parking lot and hike to the tunnel. It does drip at the entrance so wear a hat to avoid getting wet (I dislike the feeling). It's pretty safe for older kids and adults but the railing wouldn't contain a small kid from falling it. Lots of people on bikes as well and there is a detour to get all the way around since one end is currently closed for repairs.

Elisa F — Google review

Park at the Paw Paw Campground and it's a half mile gravel path. Maps might take you another way, road may not be suitable for RVs, but this road takes you above the tunnel. You can hike to the top at the trail beside the tunnel, 2 miles up hill, and 2 miles down (nope!) Tunnel Temps felt great during an 80 degree day. Bring a flashlight. Picnic table and Porta potty too.

Teresa W — Google review

Rainy day, so we decided not to spend too much time here, but the place reeks of history and striving to build with technology that would be considered primitive in today's times. On a previous visit, my son and I, and another father son pair walked through the tunnel. Recommend it!

Jeff P — Google review

This is the first time in three years we visited that the tunnel was open for walkers. Great walk with the family, kids love walking through the tunnel with the flashlights. The front opening was closed, I believe because of construction, but we were still allowed to walkthrough.Bring flashlights, suggest flashlight per person

John E — Google review

Parts of the area are under construction but they have kept the tunnel open. It looks much shorter than it actually is when you enter. At one point, we thought we were half way through when in actuality, we were only about quarter of the way. It stays cool inside, so it is great for a hot Summer afternoon.

Derrick B — Google review

Easy walk to a super cool place. The end of the tunnel is beautiful! There were also little newts in the water. Absolutely recommend stopping

Kaitlyn R — Google review

I walked along the Hill Trail and did not go through the tunnel since it looked like construction was going on. The Hill Trail has some beautiful views! I decided to take first left onto the Hill Trail...fyi...that is one sketchy sinking bridge! And my feet got a little wet. 😂

Kylena C — Google review

We can imagine the history of ancient boat travel on this ancient canal, and more importantly, the builder of this canal. They use their hand to dig the tunnel, to dig the canal river, and which convenient for boat to travel. Be respectful.

Hanhua G — Google review

Definitely worth the visit. Hard to believe that this was built back in the mid 1800s. Over 3,000 feet long through solid rock. Easy walk. Bring a good flashlight you'll need it. Tunnel entrance on one end under construction due to past rock slide. Supposedly will be finished by the fall of 2023

Mark S — Google review

I was under the impression that the tunnel was closed and was pleasantly surprised to discover yesterday that it is now open. We walked the length of the tunnel. The path has been restored, the railing is stable and we were able to enjoy a worry free walk in a pretty dark space.

This was a great, informative audio tour. I highly suggest using one of their 3 podcast platforms to listen to the tour. It’s so informative and interesting. Without it, you wouldn’t get near the information on each home. The live people working the homes made it all the better.

Jon S — Google review

Absolutely beautiful place and very calming. The staff have a lot of pride in what they do and it shows. It cost $10 for adults which is well worth it. 📷@winsleez

WINSLEEZ — Google review

Good outdoor museum on folklore with houses from 18th century and later. Fairly cheap to get in (10 dollars for an adult). Children seem amused here as there were several hands on activities for them. All can be seen in 90 minutes or less but you can easily spend more time here as well. Staff was friendly and some houses staffed with people in period clothing telling you more about the house or their craft. QR codes in each house made it possible to hear a video narrative of the house.

Old Bedford Village, along with Fort Bedford, are two must see attractions in Bedford PA. You will want to plan on spending more time in the village than at the fort. Old Bedford Village is a fantastic time machine! The structures are all real, they've been relocated here. Most are open and almost every one has something different to experience. After you've gone here (and the fort) you'll next want to visit Old Economy Village just outside Pittsburgh. That stop on the time machine is 1800's :)

Greg K — Google review

Old Bedford village has always been a favorite place for us, as kids, and adults! The murder mystery nights are fun, entertaining, and just a great time! It really is a walk back in time everytime you go!

Missy S — Google review

If you love history, you have to visit the Okd Bedford Village. This place is amazing! An amazing effort put into bringing historic buildings to life (while saving them from destruction from time). Different time periods are represented, but there are bits of history to explain each one and the time frame they were built.

Jenny M — Google review

We visited on a Thursday. Not very crowded, which I love. I’m gonna give you my feedback as a parent who had a 10, 11 and 13 year old with them. You can pay admission using a cc but once you’re in the village it’s all cash. This wasn’t my fav and having a couple of phones with square pay on them would def make for a happier and easier user experience. My oldest made a pie safe door design using a mallet and nail. Very cool. Younger two fed chickens, panned for “gold” and ran around in the diff buildings. The buildings each have short YouTube videos that you can watch to tell you more about each building- which was cool too. Blacksmith is a full time blacksmith, but also not the most friendly. Our boys came into the building and he told them they had to leave if they didn’t have an adult. Now, I’m all in on safety, but there was a barrier and all this direction of scolding did was disengage my kids from this part of the village. I understand why adults do this but I don’t think it’s helpful. There are kind ways to give that info- he def didn’t do it that way and when I offered to go back in with my kids they said no. Lost opportunity :( then we went to the gift shop. Unfortunately, it made me unhappy. There was a ton of confederate stuff. Why? Pa was Union. My ancestor was a Union soldier. I don’t want confederate stuff being sold to me in that place, it just feels racist honestly. So, that was the impression I left with- confederate cash, confederate flags, confederate soldier kits. I mean they had a union flag and a union solider kit too but I’m just sayin I wouldn’t show up at the pitt store and expect to be able to buy Penn state gear. Full stop. So, I’d go again but I hope a decision maker reads this and considers what message they send with these items in their shop.

We had a great time there. It's vety educational. The staff were very helpful and informative. We learned lot during the visit. It took about 2-3 hours walking around to see every house/shop in the village. The goat is super cute and friendly.

Wongrawee V — Google review

Visited off season and village was closed- However very nice covered bridge entrance was open with extensive walking trails !

Meghan M — Google review

What a fun day! There is so much to see. We spent about three hours there. There were about 5 reenactors/artisans there, and we learned about spinning, pottery, blacksmithing, candle making, broom making and more! It's a great price, only $10 for adults and $5 for kids over 5.There are opportunities to pay (bring cash) for treats, refreshments, tin activities, and the candle making.I took my daughter's ages 7, 10. And they loved it! I look forward to events in the fall and at Christmas time.Thank you to all of the time and effort you all put into making this an invaluable and memorable experience!

Jennifer J — Google review

Old Bedford Village self-guided walkthrough tour of the pioneer village was interesting and educational! Definitely a step back in time! There are many different buildings to explore and learn more about. An added bonus is that the employees and/or volunteers are dressed in character. An amazing experience to wonder around and enjoy!

Tami L — Google review

We love visiting here! Dozens of historic log cabins in a pioneer village setting and costumed interpreters. There was "Cowboy Weekend" going on when we recently visited and it was lots of fun!

Elizabeth L — Google review

We really enjoyed our time here. It was great to step back in time for the day. The "actors" were informative and very nice. I learned alot throughout the day. It is a peaceful place with so much to see and do. The gift shop is clean and organized. We had a great day here.

Kellie M — Google review

The grass was neatly trimmed and buildings were clean considering open doors, windows, and cracks in the chinking. Four buildings had reenactors which was very interesting! Check online to see if there are any special events! Two of us spent nearly 2 hours here! The barn contained several chickens, three goats, and two horses.

World Famous Horseshoe Curve

Historical landmark

Sights & Landmarks

Museum

Historic Sites

Scenic 2,375-foot section of railway line open since 1834 accessed by funicular & 194 steps.

My family and I really enjoyed it. If you go in the middle of the summer like we did, better to go in the morning before it gets too hot. There some shade but you don't see the trains well from it. Staying to see a couple of trains, especially the long ones are a must. Like most attractions in central and western Pennsylvania, it doesn't get crowded. We spent about an hour here before moving into Altona to see the Railroader's Museum.

Anthony S — Google review

No train rides schedule to refer to when we came, bringing inconvenience. But usually the frequency will be one train 🚂 every 30-45min. It was a pity because there is no hiking route to take the whole picture of sightseeing. I heard from the staff that the curve picture was taken on helicopter 🚁 and therefore we only see partial of the curve. The student price for entry is 4 dollars 💵.

Sophie X — Google review

We had an exceptionally beautiful autumn day at Horseshoe Curve! What I enjoy the most about going in the fall is that you can see so much more after the leaves have dropped for the season. We counted 98 cars on the eastbound train and 72 on the westbound train. While I couldn't find any information online about train schedules, I find the best time is between noon and 2pm. The museum is very informative with static displays, topographical models, and a video room with 3 videos describing the history of the area. The gift shop has a nice selection of shirts and small gifts as well. If you're into trains, this is definitely a bucket list day trip!

Saul T — Google review

Awesome view, and really cool to stay and see the trains go around the curve. If the train is long enough you can see it on both sides of the curve at the same time! Fun for train enthusiasts!

Daniel S — Google review

Its one thing when you see this place on Virtual Railfan...but it's a site to see in person. One thing I will say is that anytime is #traintime. Sometimes, visitors to here come up empty handed...and some get quite a catch (or several) to add to their impressive collection of trains

John D — Google review

A scenic get away at a unique piece of railroad history tucked in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. An interpretive center and museum, restrooms, souvenir store and picnic areas add to this track side experience. Small visitor fee, be sure to bring food and drinks and enjoy.

Dan D — Google review

Nice museum, gift shop and viewing of the railroad tracks and valley. Funicular is down for maintenance, so many stairs to climb the hill.

Hank W — Google review

Great views, a nice open park perfect for a small picnic, with loud trains of course! The lift to go up was under maintenance so had to use the stairs all the way up, which was fine as the kids saw a snake on the way up and they loved that. We will definitely go again!

Amanda R — Google review

Love coming here to watch the trains make their way along the curve, they have a small gift shop and also a nice museum to tell about the history or the curve! The bathrooms were nice. Keep in mind there is basically no shade up on the viewing hill, so bring sunblock and glasses! The incline car was not open when we were there so its only stairs to the top at this point, however, it did seem like they were working to fix it!

Tracy Z — Google review

Horseshoe Curve, the railroading mecca of the east coast. Me and my best friend visited on a Sunday and were not disappointed. 4-5 trains in one hour! A Virtual Railfan camera is also on the premises atop the hill next to the curve so you can see yourself on the video stream from your phone! Aside from the main event there's also a small museum beside the gift shop about the history and construction of horseshoe curve under the PRR, PC, Conrail, Etc. Absolutely worth the price of admission.

Bamb1 — Google review

This is my second time here. The short incline wasn’t working about 100 Zig Zag steps up to the top taking you into the middle of the Horseshoe Bend. Trains come regularly so spend a little time there and you’ll be treated to about a 3 mile train 🚊 coming around the bend Horns blaring. 12.00 for 2 Senior tickets. A great place for train watching. Out of the parking lot turn right and through the short tunnel for a beautiful drive up the mountain taking you to US RT 22 and a great fall foliage drive

Dj “ — Google review

It's incredible. The sounds of the trains going up or coming down the curve is amazing. Saw 9 trains in 5 hours the day I was there. Nice shop to buy items, too. I came from Illinois, well worth the trip.

intimidate2161 — Google review

Love this place! Was a bit chilly but we saw 4 trains in about 3 hours time

Landon N — Google review

It's a beautiful piece of railroad history. We arrived at the perfect time to see a train take the curve. The weather was great. The museum was nice. Restrooms were clean.

Marnie S — Google review

Interesting museum and viewing place, but don’t expect to SEE the complete horseshoe curve. A bit of a disappointment. Forest growth obstructs the train/track view by some 60%. In the museum a display addresses the liberties taken throughout history on portraying the curve, mostly by postcard artists. Many, many steps to climb to get to viewing area on a hill. No water fountain or bathrooms at viewing area. Some shade and benches at the top.Bathrooms at lower level museum. Snack area type cafe here. Gift shop. The viewing area hill incline motorized cart device was not running during my July 2023 visit. They broadcast live train radio traffic at the viewing area, much of it scratchy. Fee under $10 to enter. Limited hours, check website. Parking is free. Place could use a facelift.I was more amazed by the water reservoirs going up the side of the mountain that I saw driving up, one pouring into the other. 💦

Craigster G — Google review

The view is lacking unless you climb 200 steps to the observation platform . The Inclined plane is still out of service and they are not sure when it will be back in operation. The museum is interesting but again very ho hum.

Andrew L — Google review

I went here yesterday and had a great experience, I ended up seeing 6 trains and a Norfolk Southern track inspector truck, this place is an absolute must for anyone who is a railroad enthusiast.

Jacob C — Google review

Had an amazing stop today at the historic Horseshoe Curve. What a cool experience. The people responsible have created an breathtaking step back into Pennsylvania's past. We climbed the steps from the visitor center to the curve (not a horrible climb at our ages) and were there as two freight trains rolled through; one east and the other west. There are multiple trains through daily, including two AMTRAC passenger trains. The museum below is small but packed with very good visuals and videos, sharing the history of the curve and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Do check it out.

Rodger E — Google review

We had a great time! We walked up 194 steps to the top viewing area and heard, watched, and felt the great coal trains go by- with even a whistle and wave front the engineer. There is ample seating and a small covered area to view the trains. We also enjoyed the shop and all the train associated items. Definitely worth the few minute trip from Altoona or off Rt 22. The lift to the top was not operational.

Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is a prominent railway attraction that offers elegant train rides and themed excursions, including mysterious ones. Their Frostburg journey provides awe-inspiring 360-degree views for passengers who opt for the upper dome seating, accompanied by brunch. Although some shops in Frostburg may be closed on Sunday mornings, visitors can still enjoy a coffee shop, Lady Bug store and local essence store. For those seeking adventure, their Murder Mystery dinner trip promises an exciting experience.

Went on the Frostburg trip. The ride was great. We opted for the upper dome seating. Wow 360° views. A bit chilly because of the cold weather and older glass but the views were unbelievable. Brunch was included big bonus. Once in Frostburg we were shuttled into town. That was kind of disappointing because the shops were closed all but a very few. (A coffee shop, Lady Bug store and a local essents store) So not so good on a Sunday morning in March.Plan on trying their Murder Mystery dinner trip. Sounds like it will be a blast.

Tawana H — Google review

Fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend going during mid-late October to see peak fall foliage. Get there early to get a seat in the right side if the train as it has better views. You can also get up and walk around so I walked to the outdoor part where you could hear the engine and whistle and smell the steam from the coal, even getting hit with light soot debris. Will be going again!

Ryan Z — Google review

This past Saturday, I went on the Evening Dinner Train excursion with a few friends. Let me say, it didn't disappoint. There was also a Murder Mystery show going on during the excursion. The food was excellent, the only thing I would have to say is be careful that you check your silverware once you sit down. Two of the four of us didn't have a knife, so we shared our silverware. Overall, it was a fantastic trip for the price. Got a three hour train ride, dinner and a show.

Danelle C — Google review

My wife took me on the scenic train ride for my 60th birthday. I had never been on a train of any kind. I was so excited and the excursion did not disappoint. We chose the open car which was very enjoyable since it was a picture perfect day. Might not be a good idea if rain is in the forecast but definitely a good idea if there is no rain due. I plan to try one of the dinner rides next. I would suggest to bring your own food on the open car. The hot dogs we purchased left a lot to be desired. But overall this was a great experience for a very fair price.

Earl R — Google review

It's a nice train ride with some good scenery. The 90 minute layover in Frostburg was a slight disappointment... you have to walk up a big hill into town and not much to see once there. The staff seemed to be nice, with the exception of the lounge car attendant- she was just nasty rude. That's why you get a 1 star rating. Save your money and go ride the Potomac Train in Romney, WV.

DonnieFromOhio — Google review

Went for our Anniversary. Did first class lounge. $97.50 each. This did include a $20 food voucher each. The trip itself was nice. Very nice and comfy and warm. If you do the lounge I suggest you sit close to where the bar is. We sat clear in the back and it was like pulling teeth to get my hubby coffee let alone any refills. It’s called SCENIC but honestly there is no scenery. Dumpy houses and hillsides mostly. But the ride itself was nice. The Conductor was sooooo friendly. He told us him and his wife owned the lounge car and the car behind us. Made it more personable knowing all the info he gave. Went to Frostburg and had the shuttle take us up into town. It started hailing when we left the train lol. Not much to see or do there. Mostly everything was closed so we just walked around for almost two hours. By then the sun was out. Took shuttle back down to train. Once back in lounge car, we finally hailed the young guy who was the waiter. Nice guy but he was sooo busy you had to really get his attention for any orders. I had the chicken sandwich and I highly recommend that to everyone. My hubby had the turkey sandwich. If your not very hungry I say get it. There isn’t much to it. I will show a pic of menu as well. We also got the cheesecake with blueberries. I paid the difference from the $20 voucher and how much I went over. Was never give any napkins or silverware. So we had a rough time while eating. Sooo bring a few with you!!! We had to ask a few times for something to stir coffee with and getting creamer took forever so be patient. All in all it was a good way to spend the day. Not sure I would do the lounge car or trip again.

Paula P — Google review

Nice relaxing day. Wonderful staff, Shelby is awesome. There could be a bit more signage directing folks and communication on what’s going on. Did not know there was a shuttle to take people in town and was not aware our train tickets would gain us entry in the carriage museum. A big thanks to your hard working crew for making it a great day! Roll on 1309!!!

Bill T — Google review

A lovely day out! This was such a treat from start to finish! We started the day with a visit the C&O canal exhibit on site. Great way for the whole family to learn more about how goods ( mainly coal) was transported by the canal system. It provided a lot of jobs in the area and was quite innovative for its time. The train station is a step back in time. The entire process was easy to navigate. I especially loved the conductor shouting “ ALL ABOARD “. We were in coach and it was very clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was a great relief on this hot summer day. They have a lovely little concession to get some quick treats for your ride to Frostburg MD. The train conductor or (someone else not sure) was an excellent tour guide throughout the journey. My only complaint would be the lack of a shuttle from the Frostburg station to main street in Frostburg. While there were things to do at the station, the town of Frostburg was fun to visit. We did have to walk a very steep hill ( there were also steps) to get to Main Street.I definitely recommend taking a tripOn the Frostburg Flyer soon!

Kelly M — Google review

My husband and I brought our grandchildren to ride the train. They are 2 and 6 yrs old and love trains. They absolutely loved the train ride. The Conductor moved us to seats that had a full window for them to look out as our original seats only had part of the window to see out of. They gave information about certain key places along the route. All the staff was friendly, the train was clean. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Juanita H — Google review

We thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end! The Cumberland station is easy to navigate and parking was convenient. The train ride was wonderful! I'd suggest to sit on the side closest to the station, for best views, if possible. Autumn was in full bloom (on 10/21), and the sights were breathtaking! Frostburg station was very nice also. There is a steep walk (up several stairs and then up a hill) to get to most of the shops in Frostburg, but if that isn't doable, the shops and museum on the same level as the station will definitely suffice for 90 minutes. We loved everything about this adventure and will be back again!

Danielle L — Google review

Beautiful train ride. The website is bit confusing as far as the layover in Frostburg. So we did not know we could ride the train one way and ride rail bikes back, which we would have loved to do. Definitely will come back to do that. Longe car and table car were very nice food was OK.

Anthony R — Google review

Wow. Just stop reading this and book the trip! What an amazing little day trip. I've lived less than an hour away for over 20 years and after experiencing it, I cannot believe it took me so long to go. The staff cares about what they do and it shows. You can feel just how much these people LOVE their "jobs." Very friendly. Very helpful. Very accommodating. There is something for everyone even those who aren't very into trains. You don't have to be into trains at all! Wanna take the kids and let them have fun while you relax? Book a ticket. Want to leave the kids or whoever at home and have some drinks while someone else drives? Book a ticket. Seriously this is a wonderful little gem hiding in plain site. Great prices, wonderful staff, and so much fun.

Eli S — Google review

I'm not sure if it is worth $150.00 a person for a train ride. But the cars are neat as can be, you need to check them all out. The diesel and the steam engines are beautiful. The station and platform look like new. You guys keep it all in amazing condition.

Kenneth K — Google review

Beautiful experience, especially in the fall with the leaves. Get in line early so you can get a good spot on the train. Highly recommend the open air car if you can. When I went it was quite chilly which I think caused more people to not want to sit outside, but on the way back, everyone wanted an outside seat when they saw how pretty it was and how much better the views are.

We had a wonderful excursion on the railroad traveling from Cumberland to Frostburg and back. I highly recommend the observation car as it was very comfortable and offered a great view of the Maryland countryside. We were also able to go downstairs in the car to a lounge area to escape the sun from time-to-time. I did try the open car for about 30 minutes; however, with the heat and humidity and diesel fumes, I'm glad we had signed up for the observation car. The railroad staff were friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The only nit on the entire excursion involved getting on and off the train. My wife has significant mobility issues and needed help with using the metal boarding stool. The staff was reluctant to offer any help or encouragement to her in boarding or in getting off the train. We did okay on our own; however, we would have been much happier if assistance had been offered. A concern over liability issues may have been part of the problem.

First of all, it’s supposed to be a scenic ride, but the windows are all dirty. They could’ve at least cleaned the windows in between rides. So to get good pictures, I had to go to the open air seating. If you do go for open seating, sure the fresh air is nice but you will also get the smoke, leaves, and bits of dirt. The uphill hike (road or stairs) in Frostburg is not recommended for anybody with mobility issues or heart condition. There is a shuttle that’s crowded. Maybe they should expand the shops and dining choices in the level of the station. 90 minutes is not enough. So we didn’t really explore Frostburg. When you book, make sure you choose the right side of the train coz that’s where the views are. The train didn’t flip or did the turntable, they just reversed (engines both front and back) so the right side still gets the best views. That said, it was a nice experience to tick off my Maryland to do boxes. Autumn was in full bloom.

A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.$90/ticket for the Lounge car; treated with a glass of champagne, a guide to point out interesting things on route, a barman, and a $20 meal voucher.Nearly 2hr stop in Frostburg. On a Sunday not much is open.

I keep seeing mixed reviews and I feel like it’s very normal for people to only take the time to leave a review when they have something negative to say. But I was nervous taking the trip for this after seeing so many negative reviews. SO I wanted to get on here and say that my kids had the BEST time! The staff was wonderful and friendly and we rode the steam engine and it was amazing! Santa was so fun and my girls each got a bell. My husband I got one also! The hot cocoa was yummy. They had a conductor walking through the train cars and it really felt like we were on a night ride through the northern wilderness. It’s worth it! Not to mention. The town is ADORABLE if you have any time to stay and explore. It looks like a Christmas Card!

Did the winter Allegheny express afternoon excursion with layover in Frostburg. Great trip! Loved the open air car. It was a warm day. Very relaxing and fun. Can’t hear any announcements though in the open car (but we didn’t mind this)Pulled by a diesel. Will have to return to see the famous steam engine!!Pricing was reasonable for the ride (coach) but the food on board was pricier so we just ate before. Not much direction when boarding, this could be improved as a process, for example which cars to sit in for your ticket and where the dining car is would have been helpful info to know. We figured it out, but this is a suggestion for future improvement considering visitors from other countries etc.We had planned to have a snack in Frostburg but apparently very few businesses are open on Sundays which we didn’t know. There is a steep hill to get up to the town which could be difficult for people with mobility constraints. Maybe they could offer a shuttle?Town itself is charming but I wish they’d partner more with the railroad in offering some more business options to peruse as well as signage at the depot informing people what’s available, maybe even a map for those unfamiliar with the area, this could even include sponsorships or advertising to defray the cost and support local businesses. I did stop at a book shop and read some historical markers but otherwise the 2hr layover is a bit much. Frostburg looks like it is in revival but honestly a bit disappointing place to visit. There’s nothing to do even at the station, the gift shop was closed and there’s no food or options. A railroad museum, food trucks, signage, etc as well as more local businesses open in town would have improved that layover immensely.Other major issue we encountered was the train station at Cumberland had a lot of homeless hanging around. Situational awareness is needed. They are sleeping near or under the freight cars and we came across a stash of garbage and human waste while trying to look at the cars and see the bridge or walkway on the other side.Very beautiful building though! Gift shop should lean more into the WM logo and history. It would sell way more items then.Would love to see this organization make some improvements to bring guest experiences to the next level! Looking forward to visiting again.

We were close by Cumberland for a spa weekend at Rocky gap casino and the train ride was perfect. It is a few hours, so something great to do if you have a fair amount of extra time. We did the winter express and the views were great, be aware there were a lot of homes along the tracks so not as scenic as I thought it would be. You have the option to dine on the train if you have the coach ticket as well so we did that and the food was great, service was fast and efficient. It was also continently located to downtown Cumberland. Went to the shops and got some coffee

Brooke O — Google review

We chose Cumberland since the steam engines were already booked up. We booked the 7:30 one but showed up early at 4 looking to find some things to do beforehand. We have twin 7 yr old boys with lots of energy. It was a warm day even though it was Dec 22. We found a parking spot easily where we didn’t have to pay. Then walked around town. Not a whole lot going on there really. Some random shops but nothing interesting to my kids. Right outside the train station there’s a lil playground so we spent most of our time there. We hit up The Crabby Pig restaurant nearby. It was okay. Once it got dark they had a lot of lights around the station. 7:30 came and we got in line. Not much communication on where to stand. They have 3 lines #840 844 & 852 and on the left. There were so many people you didn’t know where the lines were. We waited a lot longer because of that. We boarded and the train is so cool to walk through. We got a 4 top table on 852 car. There’s some guys who start dancing and singing and do great. Only thing is you can barely hear the music. My kids didn’t care but hey it’d be nice to hear it for how much I paid. They go through some routines, then you get hot chocolate, a cookie (that sucks), and a souvenir mug. Then Santa comes and hands out bells. The workers and Santa all played their parts great! Took time to get pics too. The train ride would of been nicer at the 5:30 showing this time of year. At 7:30 it’s so dark you barely see anything until you get to the North Pole which was nice and all lit up. It’s only an hour ride but honestly it’s a perfect amount of time. Our train car was lively and everyone was singing songs. Had a great time overall. Definitely do it again. Just please get some louder speakers:)

My husband and I took our 6 and 9 year olds for the Polar Express ride and it was great! We chose the table car and it was perfect to enjoy our hot chocolate. The staff was friendly and great with the kids. Polar Express music played, the book was read, Santa stopped by and took a picture and the train car sang Christmas carols together. Overall a great experience!

Miss Barb was SUCH a helpful person to us as we came through today! We are so glad we stopped to learn even for a short amount of time!

Stevan S — Google review

Nice museum for a historical day trip. Very sad at times due to tye events. If you like history this is a good deal. Not to expensive.

Sabrina R — Google review

Worth it just to see the lighted diorama describing the flood. Nice film about the flood. Neat artifacts. Cool old building built as a library after the flood. Carnegie donated the funds. Don’t miss the Oklahoma house!

Kate A — Google review

So glad we visited here to learn about the flood and the history of Johnstown. We went on a Saturday and we three of the five people in the whole building. Dave gave us a personalized tour and explanation of the model of the river and what happened. He was very informative and clearly loves talking about the town, the history, and his personal connection to the town. Barb who was at the front desk was very nice and delightful to talk to as well. I don't think you would need to buy tickets in advance, but might want to plan to attend both local museums, and you get a discount when you buy both.

Kelly H — Google review

Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff who assisted with my questions and offered me up some interesting insights and stories about that infamous day! Thank you so much! The video on the flood was phenomenal! Really enjoyed the displays for they truly brought home that tragic and gut-wrenching experience! An hour well spent, indeed!

Ken M — Google review

This was very interesting to get a chance to see. I visited as a child years ago and wanted to take my son. The museum is within walking distance of lots of things downtown. The interior is old but also beautiful. The volunteer, Dave, was wonderful! He told us all about the flood, how and what happened and showed us around. This was super kid friendly and the boys with us really enjoyed it while learning about the history. The video took about 25 minutes but was very interesting.

Autum S — Google review

Really enjoyed this and learned a lot more than I had in the past. We had a great tour guide and his knowledge of what happened really helped make it most interesting!

Vanessa W — Google review

Truly a local gem with some serious PARKING ISSUES. The struggle was that we had no prior knowledge of the town, and I could not find any obvious information either from Google Maps, or the JAHA website on where to park. Google Maps shows a decent parking lot adjacent to the museum, but it's not available for visitor parking. There were several other parking lots that we drove past, that were by permit only. There is a parking garage at the corner of Walnut and Vine, but it's 4 blocks away. At the corner of Walnut and Washington there was a blue sign with an arrow pointing over the bridge for the museum parking lot. We parked in the first lot we saw, which runs along the Conemaugh River, and is immediately past the bridge. When I asked a museum staffer, they said the correct lot was across the bridge next to the red caboose. This means you take a left after crossing the bridge heading towards the train station. This requires you to cross 3 busy streets on foot, and if you have kids in tow, this could be a nightmare. I think having this information beforehand would have been helpful. All that complaining aside, this museum oozes with charm and history. The first level has a very clear lit-up diorama-like map that shows you the timeline from the moment the dam broke, to the time it hit Johnstown. The 2nd floor is more modern with a theater that regularly shows a really good, short film on the disaster. The 3rd floor is an open space, much the way it looked when it was built in 1891, with a really neat organ. At a price of $7.50 for students 3-17, and adults at $9.50, I felt this wasn't outrageous for a non-profit. If you can do both the museum and the NPS Memorial (free), which are 20 minutes apart, I would do both, as they offer different perspectives. Literally. If I had to chose one, I couldn't. The Johnstown museum feels more authentic, but the NPS Memorial offered more space to walk around outside, and a more dramatic video of the tragedy.

Janet R — Google review

We met Barb when we came in. She had so much information. She is definitely a great asset to the museum. We had already learned about the flood but there were so many pictures and stories that it was so heartbreaking. So many people lost their lives unnecessarily.

Erika P — Google review

It was a very interesting historical and tragic event that took place in Johnstown after the South Fork Dam breached and destroyed everything in its path. The film captured the magnitude of the disaster. The displays are informative. The Oklahoma Hut is one such display that was made available to survivors for shelter. The museum guide was very helpful and knowledgeable giving us a map of structures that survived the flood.

Meg — Google review

I had an awesome day in Johnstown. The Incline was a stop while on an autumn trip around Southwestern PA. It's a slow ride up and down the hill so you can take pictures and enjoy looking out over the city. There is a nice flat park at the top of the hill with a large American flag. The city and the incline are worth visiting if you are in the area.

Bill D — Google review

Johnstown inclined plane is definitely worth a visit. The park at the top is nice too. Highly recommend if you are in Johnstown.

Craig C — Google review

The inclined plane is under construction so you currently can't ride it or get to the viewing balcony. I think you can possibly go into the restaurant at 4pm and after for a view of Johnstown.

Jay S — Google review

I lived near the Incline Plane for a year and took many rides on it, enjoying the view. I like the gift shop as well. My grandchildren all had fun. But most of all, I loved the restaurant. Best Italian food anywhere. And the view was beautiful as well. The restaurant is still open, from what I heard. But when will the whole place be open. It's been about 3 years.

Jim S — Google review

Historic, beautiful and uncommon would be a few words to describe this local gem. The staff is also notably friendly , knowledgeable and courteous. The views from the top are stunning. There are also a nice gift shop and evening restaurant at the summit.

Anthony C — Google review

Very cool experience with great views of the town below. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Finding the right place to park at the bottom is a bit of a challenge but certainly worth taking the time to do.

Cindy A — Google review

Riding the plane is rather inexpensive. They run roughly every 15 minutes, although I wish hours of operation started earlier.Mountain bike trails are easily accessed from the top, ride bikes down and ride the plane back up.The bottom, however, requires you to carry your bike up through a very narrow passage and stairwell. If you are running bars over 700s, it's very tight, and difficult for children. I had to carry my bike up, then go back and carry my sons bike up.The trails are pretty technical and I wouldn't advise a novice, especially a novice child, ride them. The trails require ability to control your descent and handle tight turns. The lower section of trail is mich easier for a beginner.

D. M — Google review

Don't fear it, it's really not a bad ride!Although this incline is steeper than the ones in Pittsburgh, it's a much smoother ride. I generally have weak knees if I'm even three stories high somewhere, but I was stepping out of my comfort zone to ride it and it wasn't bad at all! It was a very smooth ride and it even still transports vehicles both ways. I wish we'd have started at the bottom and put the car on to get to the top. The platform outside is a great view and from inside the gift shop you can see the mechanics of it (as pictured here).

Jeanie P — Google review

This place is awesome and a must see, worth a day trip (but make sure it's during the open season). I live in Pittsburgh, a few blocks from the Duquesne Incline, which I ride often, and this one in Johnstown is a gem! It was closed when I visited and I absolutely will return when it's open. So, a little known day trip you can take, from Pittsburgh to Altoona, will allow you to see 5 inclines, 4 of which you can ride. The Duquesne and Monongahela inclines in Pittsburgh, Johnstown inclined plane, Allegheny Portage Railroad, then the mini incline at the Altoona Curve. Enjoy 😉.

Greg K — Google review

Definetly a million times better than the Pittsburgh Duquesne incline. So big, spacious and I love that it can carry motor bikes and cycles and even small cars. The view from the top is amazing, not crowded, and I love the little icecream joint. There is a large park designed like a baseball field just next to it do u can relax while enjoying the view. If u fancy a meal, there's a wonderful Italian restaurant just next door. Must see if u are in jonstown area.

Don't miss this gem! The artists each have their own unique craft and many stories to tell of their work in the village. The metalsmith, Doug Salmon, even let us try our hand at welding! You can shop for some truly spectacular handmade goods as you learn about the history of the village and the wonderful people who helped create it.

Erik L — Google review

I go to the village every time I come to Maryland for the Renaissance festival and/or go to DC. It is a beautiful setting with wonderfully talented artisans you can observe at work and interact with. I particularly admire the work of Gary Yoder, the bird carver. He makes the birds breathe and look like they are ready to take off. His carved feathers look so real, it is hard to believe they are wood. And they have 2 restaurants onsite. Penn Alps with more traditional Mennonite country food and Cornucopia, more modern and very tasty with a nice fireplace. I recommend a visit!

Mary — Google review

Very sad how the tornado damage has ruined some of the older buildings in this mountain village. We have always enjoyed visiting this artisan village. Some of the buildings are completely ruined. Hopefully they will rebuild it to the best possible way that it will resemble they way it used to be.

Judy M — Google review

This was our second visit to the Artisan visit years apart, and it is always a great spot to stop. There are so many different crafts being worked on. We love to see the projects in progress and get to talk with the artists. There are gift stores and also a restaurant although we haven't eaten there yet. This trip we brought our 5 month old and it was a great little trip to practice traveling.

Sara C — Google review

We just fell in love with the Spruce Forest Artisan Village! All the establishments are housed in rustic old log cabins and sell some unique handmade items. It makes for a very lovely shopping experience! Beautiful photos can be snapped around every corner! Will be back!

The village allows you to interact with the artists in historic cabin studios. The artists consistof pottery, bird sculpture, metal art, woodturning, weaving, and blacksmith. They encourage& support mountain crafts. The artists design top quality design work! The House of Yoderfeatures 1700’s architecture don’t miss it. You can eat at the Penn Alps Restaurant & Craft Shop. There is parking around the village and several steps at the cabins. The special event is the Christmas in the Village-Dec.2-3. Nice place to visit for several hours. PS. They have a herbal soap maker as well!

Eugenia Z — Google review

This is a wonderful little artist village. All of the historic homes are turned into little artist shops. They had a quilting shop, quilling shop, weaving shop, blacksmith, wood carvings, colored pencil art, and a soap shop. Penn Alps restaurant and craft store is located next door. Access to Casselman River bridge is just a few steps away.

Second time here many years apart. Both visits I greatly enjoyed the artisans. Not every artisan is always there and on the wet day we were there, we only got to visit the quiller and the potter. I enjoyed talking to them and buying handmade gifts! This is a unique setting for artist to work and sell their wares. Have never eaten at the restaurant, maybe next visit!

This 4,072-acre park offers seasonal & year-round activities including swimming, hiking & camping.

Fantastic place for camping, fishing, hiking and generally getting outdoors. Some of the best camping spots in a state park in PA, large trail system with a wide range of difficulty, perfect for beginners and experienced hikers. The lake is great for fisherman and has a beach area with close access to the campsites. Large collection of park state relics like the CCC buildings. Highly recommend for families and those wanting to check out more state parks.

Clean, winter heated unisex bathrooms with flushing toilets & changing table. Many trails. Fishing & boating areas. Water dam. Beach area. Picnic pavilions. Pet friendly. Campground closed in winter, but has sledding area open for kids, which is unique. Close to Seven Mountains Resort.

Shelly D — Google review

Super nice park to camp at. Just wild enough feel like you’re truly in the woods, but not too wild to feel unsafe (in this novice campers opinion). The shower and bathroom facilities were nice and clean. The campsite was reasonable price and size, just watch out if you plan on tent camping since some sites don’t have enough space for anything but the picnic table and fire ring. The fire wood store they have on site made having fires a breeze. The hikes were quite easy and fun, not difficult like I thought they were going to be. Great place overall!

Liz R — Google review

Very nice park. Camping area is nicely forested for the most part, not a huge field like some are. Great hiking and the lake is nice. Did some kayak ing and saw lots of birds and a few turtles. Lots of CCC history.

Jeremy P — Google review

We had a wonderful weekend camping at Laurel Hill State Park! The camp hosts were kind and encouraging. We saw park rangers walking or driving through the park daily. Our site was just down the hill from the bath house. The bath house was kept clean and had warm showers. There are great trails and the gift shop was a nice place to cool down and get something to remember the trip. They had apparel, stickers, ornaments, children's toys/activity books and some camping supplies (propane, extra tent stakes, etc). Even though we had thunderstorms, our family had a great time camping here!

Emma K — Google review

Really nice place. The beach is long and there's a lot of places for grilling and picnics. Kayak & bike rentals are reasonable. The water does get muddy when rain makes the creek flow heavy but otherwise the water is really nice.

Bob V — Google review

Such a lovely park. It's rather big and the beach and surrounding trails are beautiful. The beach is one of the largest I've been to around Pittsburgh; on the beach there is a small playground, a beach volley court, and kayak/sup/canoe/paddle board/bikes rental (although the bike are few and old). From there you can take the lake trail that goes all around. Very natural but muddy after a rain. Then there's the trail that takes you away from the lake and to a small dam along the river which is lovely and there are a couple of areas where you can dip in the water that's very clean and cold.Along the trails you can hear all kinds of birds, frogs etc...It wasn't busy when were here but being close to a campground I feel like it gets busy during summer. It's a very popular area for fishing.Bathrooms are scattered along the trails and there are several parking lots.Definitely looking forward to go back!

Patrizia R — Google review

Visited on Labor Day. Hardly anyone was there. Beautiful place that had a snack bar, public restrooms and showers, and renting of kayaks available. There was also a wheelchair available to push it into the sand as well as handicap parking. Plenty of places to picnic under the trees for a family event. We did rent a kayak and you could see where there was a walking path along the lake.

Peg P — Google review

Very nice and clean State Park. Stopped on a quick trip to Laurel Highlands to see the lake. We haven’t been there since our boys were little and camped there. Lake is nice and there are nice walking trails. Small bike rentals, bathrooms, and concessions. Stop and take in the sights on the access road.

This is a nice park to visit any season. There are many hiking trails which in the winter can be snowmobiling trails. There's also a damn, reservoir, and creek on property. As well as a lake, that you can swim at the beach or rent a kayak. There are restrooms and snack bar in this area as well as multiple picnic areas.

I've read good things about Laurel Hill State Park and I was not disappointed. Enjoyed the hiking trails, the abundant trees and the scenery. It will make a good trip in the Autumn with the changing of the leaves. There is a camping area though I didn't check it out. There is also a good sized beach at the 63 acre lake. Electric motors only. People enjoying kayaking and paddle boating. Lots of places to picnic.Great day at this park nestled in the hills of Somerset County. Make sure to check out Jones Mill Run Dam. As with other state parks you can find maps and information at the park offices. I will return to check out more features and visit other parks that cover this area.

Last minute trip on Memorial Day weekend and we were lucky enough to get a spot at the campground. Very quiet and serene campground. Fairly clean but basic bathroom/shower rooms. The sites were a little close but adequate. The beach was amazing. Long, very clean and well marked with access to volleyball, kayak launch, swimming and fishing. Many great spots to have a picnic for 2 or a picnic for 50. The hiking trails were nice and easily manageable for novice hikers. But many off trails for the more experienced. The Jones Mill Run trail and waterfall was awesome. The pups had the time of their life!

Beautiful low-key park. It's a hidden gem. The campground is nice, sites are spacious, and no golf carts are driving around! I've been to several campgrounds where you can't ride your bike after dark, but those damn carts with flashing lights and loud music can speed all around.

Fort Ligonier, located in the small town of Ligonier, is a reconstructed 18th-century British fort that offers guided tours and houses a museum with artifacts and a gift shop. The fort's original 8-acre site served as an outpost for 5,000 British-American soldiers during the French and Indian War, including a young George Washington. After being decommissioned in 1766, little remained of the fort by the end of the 19th century.

This is a very well preserved piece of Pennsylvania history! Goes in detail of the happenings that happened that lead up to the war of 1812. And eventually the Revolutionary war! Great museum that talks about the history of the officers and different military events. Highly recommend coming here to learn more about America’s history!

My family and I really enjoyed this fort. We have been to several around the country and this one was one of the largest and really made you feel like you were there and not just walking through some ruins of once was. Highly recommend.

Excellent museum with tons of artifacts on display from uniforms and weapons to paintings. The fort is restored with all the buildings having displays inside. The entire stay was very knowledgeable and friendly. If you are a history nerd like me I highly recommend.

This is an amazing place to take kids and the family history expert. Being able to see all of the artifacts from different armies during the 7 year war is amazing. Then being able to walk through the fort is an incredible experience. Looking forward to Ligonier Days.

Great museum and the authenticity of the recreated fort and the buildings is amazing! The staff are very welcoming and helpful. We had our 25lbs dog along and we were allowed to visit the indoor museum while carrying her, and then she was allowed to walk around the outdoor area! The museum is very well done, not many French and Indian sites in the US, so it was nice to review the information.

We went for Fort Ligonier days and had an amazing time! Entry is reasonably priced for the Museum and Fort! The exhibits are really cool with a lot of information on each piece. Great place to take the family for a couple hours!

This special place has been in my heart since I was 6 years old. My Dad's favorite stop and favorite little town. The Fort is so very well presented and they keep improving the museum. It's worth the visit regardless of your historical interest level. For true history buffs there is so much more here than you would imagine. Easily can spend a hour plus. The volunteer guides are wonderful and truly filled with knowledge that you might not get on your own.

Really neat place to visit, especially if you are a history person. Was much larger than I expected and gave a nest glimpse into life at the fort. The artifacts they have are incredible to see in person.

My son and I ended up here on an impromptu road trip. Very informative. I don't know a lot about this time period but enjoyed learning. And there was even a tie to Carlisle PA which where we live. I will definitely continue reading about these events.

Kay K — Google review

Great place as always. My ancestors were cousins of Burd and St Clair and came over in the 1730s. I used to live in Ligonier. It's an amazing bit of history.

William S — Google review

Our school recently visited Fort Ligonier and we had an amazing time! The tour provided by the staff was excellent, as they were knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about sharing the history of the fort and the surrounding area. The exhibits were well-curated and engaging, making it easy to learn and understand the important events that took place at the fort during the French and Indian War.The fort itself is beautifully maintained and it's evident that a lot of effort has gone into ensuring that it remains an authentic representation of its time period. The grounds are also immaculately kept, making for a pleasant and enjoyable stroll around the area.Overall, we highly recommend a visit to Fort Ligonier. It's an excellent destination for anyone interested in history, and a great way to learn more about this fascinating period in American history. Thank you to the staff at Fort Ligonier for making our visit so memorable!

First time in Ligonier and decided to check out the Fort. It was $15 a person to tour the site and the museum. I highly recommend waiting for an actual tour. We showed up just in time for one and our tour guide Spencer was awesome. You really get the full scope of history and the staff are very knowledgeable for questions. I plan on coming back in October for when they will have their reenactment days.

Curt S — Google review

This is a great fort to visit. You can feel the history here. The guides were unobtrusive but willing to step in if you had questions. If you only visit one historical fort in your lifetime make it this one!!

Stephen I — Google review

This is such a a great place to go, for the history, ambiance, and reenactments. It really gives you a sense of the time and environment of the period. The reenactors get to stay on the grounds in full regalia. The museum is small but informative and the town of Ligonier has great restaurants and bars. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend a visit.

Great staff, great museum section and the outdoor area is very well kept.History that every American should know but few actually do. I look forward to finding a living history event held here for my sons to enjoy.

Idlewild & SoakZone

Amusem*nt park

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

Children's amusem*nt center

Cultural center

Kids-oriented amusem*nt park offers a ferris wheel & more mild rides, a wave pool & water slides.

Absolutely lovely! The park is incredibly well thought out: from arrival to departure.1. The parking lot system is exceptional. It’s easy to park and get into the amusem*nt park. They have multiple lots around the facility to minimize the walking for little legs.2. Rides are older but well maintained: we road almost every ride in the park. They were all exceptionally well maintained and the staff was actively cleaning and maintaining the entire park as we played.3. The conversion of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood to Daniel Tiger was adorable and done well: they reused the sets perfectly.4. Raccoon Lagoon is perfect for littles under 5! We were never bored.5. The water park portion is absolutely lovely. A lazy river, slides, a wave pool, a toddler area, and a dragon ship for older kids is perfect. There should be more shade, though: for safety sake.

Michelle R — Google review

If you have children and looking for one-day ride to burn their children, Idlewild is a good option to put in your radar. We went on a Labor Day one hour after opening and the park wasn’t that crowded. A lot of attractions were closed given to COVID and possibly for maintenance. It doesn’t get five stars because, as a lot of people said here, food is pricey here and they lack healthy options for kids. The highlight of the park is definitely the Soak Zone. Honestly, I’d skip the main park and would go straight to the water park.

Arthur A — Google review

Idlewild and SoakZone was always one of my favorite places to go as a kid and now as an adult with a kid. We usually arrive when the park opens and try to leave by 3:00 p.m. as it gets crowded later in the day. The best thing to do is to go to the wave pool area early in the morning, then leave SoakZone around lunch time when it starts to get crowded. We usually pack a lunch since the food is expensive. Depending on how much money you plan to spend, you may be better off purchasing the gold annual pass. We go several times throughout the year, and barely spend any money when we go. With each gold pass, you receive a free souvenir refill cup (free refills) and a nice discount on the food venues. This year they discontinued the 99 cent popcorn refill bucket. I spoke to the person selling the popcorn and she said there are a lot of people upset about it, so we are hopeful that they will bring it back. This park is geared for families with smaller children. Our son just became 37” tall this year and can ride most of the rides now. In addition to SoakZone (water park), and the normal rides, there is also a Kiddieland for younger children and Story Book Forrest. These two parts of the park are fun to go to for smaller children and take a lot of time to go through. All in all Idlewild and SoakZone are great places to go, but plan to spend a lot of money. For an example, the duck pond game was $10.

Christopher S — Google review

Food was overpriced. Free parking. A lot of things were closed including gift shops. We bought a souvenir cup almost 13bucks and it's the 2017 one, pretty bummed about that. Ordered a combo and didn't get a side or a drink. It's definitely run down and needs a fresh coat of paint and some upgrades. We only went for Daniel Tiger, rode the trolley, train and carousel. Lots of shade and bees. They did offer beer at one stand (8-10 bucks per) and food not containing meat (cheese Pizza and Fries). My daughter had fun she's almost two but she also didn't realize what she was missing with the rides, she was to small to go alone and adults were to big (for her age group).

Dana I — Google review

We have been visiting this park since the 1990's. First with our own kids and yesterday with grandchildren. I love the updates done to storybook forest and the characters were the best we have ever experienced. We would have loved to have been able to tour storybook forest at 9AM like we did with our own children as this makes getting through the park easier. We like that the parking lots make packing a picnic lunch an option and convenient. We were going to eat dinner at the park before leaving, but the food was outrageously expensive so we left the park and went to McDonald's drive through. We thought the park was very clean and we noticed significant updates and painting repairs since our visit 2 years ago. Nicely done! One issue we had that caused significant frustration was that bathrooms were very difficult to locate on the map and were not well marked in the park. The maps are to small to actually read details like restrooms. We were disappointed that the park closed at 7pm which we did know about before arriving but it makes it impossible to do everything in a single day. We live 3 hours away in Ohio and used to arrive at the park at 9Am and leave at 10PM.Yesterday we realized that there was no way to do the water park and Old Idlewild amusem*nt rides so we gave the kids a choice. They picked the rides therefore for the first time ever we did not use the water park. We live close to multiple water parks but it was still disappointing. With the exception of hours and restroom issues, we love this park and will return.

Pam S — Google review

What a nice place! My kids loved it! Parking and entry was so easy! It's a shame more places don't do it this way! Food was average, and the staff was polite. Very nostalgic and very enjoyable! We felt safe and relaxed here. Only complaint, lots of bees for reasons unknown. If you bring/use hand sanitizer, leave the floral scents at home. Looking forward to our next visit!

Matthew S — Google review

Nice park, a lot of parking lot spaces, good ideas of monkey gym, we was first time here for Halloween , they have a nice photo spots. The best railroad views. But next time will go to Kennywood, there is more attractions for adults, kids zone smaller then Idlewild, but more coasters, less distance to drive.

Inna S — Google review

This park was lovely, shaded and a great time for the kids. A little expensive! My wife was pregnant and couldn't really ride anything at all, so it stinks we still had to pay! I only wish that the staff managing the rides were more attentive and engaging with the kids. There was no cheeriness and just felt like everyone was going through the motions. I think it took away from the enjoyment for the kids to be honest when the people running the rides don't seem at all excited about them. It was not a busy day but many times we had to wait because a child needed help out of a ride seat but the attendant was just sitting there for instance. My young daughters went through an entire bumper car ride stuck against a side with another car blocking them in and no way of getting out. The attendant just pretended not to see them which was very frustrating for them. Lifeguards at the water zone were highly attentive which was great. If you are going on the larger roller coaster make sure to check your combined weight on the scale ahead of time. Many people waited in line for the whole time just to find out they can't ride together. The combined weight for each row was like 265lb or something. If over that limit, you can't ride at all! Lockers of different size were available for the water area. We got one for $13 which fit a backpack full of stuff and our shoes for the whole day if needed.

John S — Google review

Amazing family oriented amusem*nt park. They still have some originals and have made improvements on a few of the rides. It's definitely not modern, but it's perfect for a family with younger kids. We appreciate that my 2 1/2 and 7 year old have a lot of different rides to enjoy, but also the Jumping Jungle and Storybook Forest offer up fun 'nonriding' activities as well. Storybook Forest has characters throughout and they are so sweet and interact with the kids. Snow White took the time to point out each dwarf (figures) and their names. She included some fun stories with it too. There's little wait for the kiddie rides even on a beautiful weekend afternoon in August, the longest wait we had was for the Wild Mouse and that was about 20 minutes. I would definitely seek out discount tickets. We chose Groupon and saved over $50 for a family of 4. Bring your own water if you can or be ready to pay $4/bottle. I'd also suggest packing up snacks as they don't have any restrictions on coolers or bags. Finally, park anywhere and it's a very short walk into different areas of the park. (I can't speak about Soak Zone because we didn't go to that area.)

Stacy A — Google review

Not bad for small kids. Super crowded at the Soak Zone as to be expected on a 90° day. We did the amusem*nt rides first before going to the water area. Usual line up of concession stands and drinks. Adults were happy to have the opportunity to have a beer or two. Parking is what you'd expect, crowded. There are no marked spots, so one car could park crooked and take up three spots which is what many did, and with no lot attendants, no one was correcting the problem. This is my reason for a star off. The kids had a good time and really that is all that matters.

A. W — Google review

It was a great day! It is decorated so cute for fall & Halloween. So nice for the kids to be able to Trick or Treat there.

Connie P — Google review

This old park has a nostalgic atmosphere and is tucked in amongst the Laurel Mountains. There are 4 sections of the park which is all family friendly. The first part is Storybook Forest which showcases classic fairytales and is interactive. It's decorated with miniature houses that you can walk through and your kids will love it. Next is the main part of the amusem*nt park which has old wooden rides and many fun games. There are lots of food choices and plenty of places to sit. Then if you walk across the large wooden bridge or take the train you will find Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. There are a ton on rides for the little ones and even some games and food in this section. Last is Soak Zones, you'll need a full day to explore the fun water slides, the giant water bucket, wave pool, enormous interactive pirate ship for the small kiddies and the lazy river. There are changing rooms and lockers. The staff were friendly and the park was clean. I love Idlewild and I've taken my family there for years. My only complaint is that they no longer have the antique photo studio. We would get a family picture every year as a tradition and had fun dressing up in period clothing. This was a disappointment for my family. Also their prices for food, games and entry have gone up significantly which made things a little challenging during our visit. Over all it's a fun place to go with your family. We have made some long lasting memories at this magical place.

Michelle L — Google review

Beautiful park. Numerous picnic pavilions in short walking distance. Plenty of parking with handicapped access. Very family friendly environment. Lots of shaded areas and benches. Would recommend taking your own food and drinks. Very costly in the park. They allow wagons in park. If going to park often a seasonal pass is helpful and save you. No cash use in park, credit/debit cards only. A great time was had.

Rose L — Google review

Hallowboo was fantastic! The kids had such a wonderful time, all the rides were open and spookybook forest was even better with treats for the kids!Idlewild is a great place to visit spring, summer and fall!Oh and cousin Eddie, well done.Idlewild, yes, you have my permission to use my review.

M K — Google review

We stopped at Idlewild while touring the small amusem*nt parks in NY and PA and just loved the nostalgia of the park. It felts like stepping back into the 50s or 60s where families would vacation at a place like this for a week or two. They have a nice selection of rides, but it’s not really a thrill seeker park. It’s wonderful to just slow it down and enjoy the flat rides and beautiful scenery. The have two coasters. Rollo Coaster is a well maintained woody from 1938. It’s a great family style coaster. They also have a wild mouse steel coaster that is pretty fun.We enjoyed our time there and will be back!

The Palace Theatre

Performing arts theater

Concerts & Shows

Theaters

This theater in old circa-1926 school seats 1,300 patrons for music, dance & theater performances.

This is an amazing venue to see a show. It's turn of the 20th century architecture has been totally remodeled and looks fantastic. Built in 1926 it has all the charm and elegance of a world-class theater. There is not a bad seat in the house. You owe it to yourself to enjoy the charm and magnificence of this beautiful theater.

I had the privilege of seeing WASP and Armored Saint at the Palace Theater on Nov 13, 2022. It is a beautiful theater with a great view from any seat and amazing acoustics. I enjoyed the atmosphere and quaintness of the locale. Great show. Beautiful theater. I recommend it as an experience.

Larry D — Google review

Cute, vintage theater/venue.If you're going to a music event the floor has better sound quality than the mezzanine or balcony.Enjoyed Yachtely Crew

Jennifer P — Google review

I think this theater is really well maintained. I don't think there is a bad seat in the whole place, we were in the left balcony section 3/4 of the way up (so almost in the back row). There is a parking garage just past the theater that offers free parking during events,, so that's really convenient. Concessions closed half way through the show we attended but other than that, we had a great time! Definitely will go back, next time we sit in the lower level as opposed to the balcony just for a new experience.

Lauren S — Google review

The theatre itself makes you feel like you are stepping back in time....in a good way...and if you close your eyes you would think Get The Led Out was actually.....

Brandy R — Google review

We attended The Price is Right Live show! So much fun! Easy parking, nearby restaurants and comfortable seating! We will definitely go back for other shows! Nice venue!

Robin M — Google review

Just saw Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin evening and I'm pretty sure I got goosebumps that lasted two hours. Un. Believable. Not a bad seat in the house. The experience just blew me away. Super friendly staff too. If you closed your eyes it was like listening to Led Zeppelin themselves. It just became my favorite concert ever (at least musically) 😉

Tim R — Google review

Excellent venue to see live bands. Best yet was Joe Satriani. Free parking at the garage across the street after 5pm. Palace ticket price is very reasonable. Wine, beer, water, coffee and snacks are available for purchase. Got the palace cup to benefit the place and take drink to the seat. Great time had by all, encore had everyone on their feet and a standing ovation for the band. Perfect!

Val H — Google review

Beautiful place I like the balcony I like the outside area and they have some pretty nice events the last one we went to was the Gilmore project it was nice and the sound was okay. Prices are crazy especially they had on all that extra for fees is ridiculous but I guess they have to pay somebody but it was worth the money I guess. If you park in the one lot by the Westmoreland cultural district there's artwork that we passed along the way and it is awesome.

Bernadette K — Google review

Throwback to great theater experiences from bygone eras. Cool balconies and cluster areas to mingle in smaller groups. Greensburg bringing "big name" musicians from the 70's and 80's to draw crowds. LOVED last night's America concert. They've been entertaining for 53 years and can still put out great rock. Been humming their songs all day today.

Daphne L — Google review

An all around great place! The Palace Theater of Greensburg is a great place for those bigger shows that go beyond the community theater. We gifted our sons Illusionist Rick Thomas, Mansion of Dreams tickets for Christmas. The theater has beautiful lighting and plenty of seating. The stage is large enough for the entertainers, Rick even had a helicopter on stage in his act! A nice place for large acts and musicals!

Dede K — Google review

Watched "STOMP" at the Palace. Great seats, although a little small for my rather large body. Looks like every seat is a good seat. Definitely will return.

I Absolutely Love my home town Palace Theatre. The sound was amazing and the people who help there are so genuinely nice. My Brother and I attended the concert for The Guess Who and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Linda — Google review

Very pretty venue. The staff was incredibly friendly and sweet. The security process and ticketing was quick and easy. No re-entry which would have been good to know beforehand since we arrived a bit early and we're expecting more than chips and candy at concession. (Soda, beer, and wine was also available.)The staff was great at helping people to their seats during the show and also stopping people who were trying to record the show.A little bizarre to see one security guard (late 20s or early 30s white male) was looking at nude photos unfortunately, but the rest of the staff was fantastic.

Leah ( — Google review

Beautiful comfortable facility for a concert. I enjoyed the concert, but you could hear Joss Stone singing over the music her microphone wasn't turned up to hear her clearly. It was my first time listening to her it could have been better.

Cynthia W — Google review

Nice concert venue. Even though we were up in the balcony, we could see the stage very well. There really doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. Location is easy to find, and there is plenty of parking nearby.

I'm just a casual college football fan. I don't really cheer on anyone super hardcore. I more so came for the college game day experience and it was great. The fans had amazing tailgates going on throughout the town. West Virginia ended up losing to Oklahoma State in a shootout but it was a very entertaining game nonetheless. I would come back for a future game. And I'd certainly recommend others coming to a game here as well.

We didn't win, but the weather was great for November and the experience was great anyway! The facility is well kept and easy to get around in. The food is good too (letting alone the tailgating culture, which is alive and well). We met friendly people all over the place and I'm planning on going back with the idea of meeting my new friends and enjoying the game and the experience (with hopefully a better result this time)! My pictures are from the November 6th game of WVU and Oklahoma State University.

I got to my last term to sign up for. Looked n couldn’t find said class. Waited for it to show because I thought they just haven’t put in all the classes because with my advisor he had our app was before they put classes out. When to look n it wasn’t there. Just got my advisor today to tell me they changed the name n lowered the level which will cost me an additional semester for 1 class. N ITS FULL. My last term with no notice. So guess who won’t be graduating from lack of funds n this? Me. I’m not happy at all. Run away from here n go to a different university if u expect to grad. I come from a long line of poverty. This isn’t fun to do to ppl. I’m so upset. I have two kids I was trying to gain higher education for a better job. Let’s not even talk about the disability office n their lack of having a plan in place other than extra time for extreme disability n their suggestions to go to xyz to get proof when those places do not test adults so

The campus is beautiful. The healthcare can be waived if you have another form. Teachers are understanding and will work with you. Lots have offered more detailed help n clarification in emails. If you get hospitalized they will help with due dates. Most are compassionate. Class materials are not expensive for most of them. Tuition is set at a good price for independent single students. They accepted most of my transfer credits. Most online classes fit people who schedule isn’t as flexible due to work and kids. Most classes are understanding of this and due dates are usually Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. They worked with me to finish my degree when requirements were changed. They let me substitute a lower level class with a higher level to finish out. They changed requirements for the minor in my last semester and messed with my grad plans, but now it’s back on track for fall. Only complaint would be that there is no finical aid for online students. Most are online due to circ*mstances. They don’t cap credit charges at 12credit hrs like they do for in person. I feel like they could fit in-state online students as well. They could at least have online student aid available like scholarship. I almost didn’t grad because of the high cost and no funding available but I got it sorted. I’m a first gen college student from a poverty family.

Attention all students: please never ever ever ever ever ever ever attend WVU University.I have never seen a more decentralized, confusing, undocumented university in my life, and as a retired professor I have to say I've got a little bit of experience in this matter.WVU is also famous, from my reading and anecdote, for partying. And after having been through the experience of trying to get my disabled wife a permit for parking her vehicle, we were left cold and disgusted! There is just no such thing as ADA accommodations here at this university. Instead, they tell you to go park in this massive parking lot and a bus will take you where you have to go. You can't use the ADA parking right next to the building where you're attending class. That would be way too simple.I will close by reminding you once again to please never attend WVU. News reports of declining enrollment and reduced majors/educators seem to confirm things. If you want an education, I recommend you go up to Carnegie Mellon University, or go to UCLA where I did.

It’s a really great place to learn and enjoy your university time. The value of learning is different from one department to another as it vary depending on the area of study you want to pursue. Life is quite affordable and people are mice in the surrounding area.

Yasir A — Google review

The administration does not care about students. The campus is too spread out and parking is expensive. I've had several good professors but they deserve to be better paid at some other university that will treat them well.

Worst admission department from School of counseling and well being. All the applications were submitted on time and what this specific school said was the admission packet was not send to them on time from the admissions so they cannot move forward with the application. Applicant did not missed the deadline, their admission department send it late and the consequence has be faced by the applicant. What an act!

Great University!!!The facilities are well kept. We visited for Fall Family Weekend and we had fun with the little ones. Enjoyed different activities in the Student Recreation Center.

Very bad admission staff , wasted my time for more than three months applying for papers, then i got rejected for no reason, and they just gave me a stupid answer, we only review it march 1st, but the submission was in february, what a waste of time.

Jack Byrd of the engineering school should not have a job, an office, or an income from WVU.

Beautiful winery and grounds! Good food, desserts and DELICIOUS coffee. Wine tasting was not available, but we still purchased wine.Love the different seating areas. Great place to go for an afternoon or evening to listen to music and enjoy some wine and food with friends! One of the nicest wineries around!

Is really pretty here to sit outside. We had the bread with the tomato oil which wasn't bad not great a little salty if you got mostly the tomato. We also had the vehicle harm and it wasn't bad but there wasn't a lot of sauce on it at all and it was a little too thick where most of the liquid was cooked out of it and lacked flavor. It was more of a tomato paste type of flavoring. The wines weren't bad not Napa or French but doable we had a wine flight of two reds cab and Chardonnay. Probably would go back for the scenery and maybe to try something else

Had a super good time this afternoon at Narcissi. A wonderful outdoor setting under the grapevine pergola. Everyone was very friendly and was able to take us on a walk-in basis for an early lunch. Service was very good and the food was superb. The wine was fantastic My wife enjoyed a Pinot grigio and I savored the dry rosé.

We had gone to Narcisi Winery to celebrate Mother’s Day. We couldn’t have pick a better place to spend our day. The food, wine and service were excellent. Our server Carly definitely deserves a 5 star for all of her hard work. The place was packed, but Carly waited on us like we were the only customers she was taking care of. Just love this place!

This weekend we had a reception to celebrate our elopement at Narcisi Winery. Our entire experience with them was excellent from start to finish! Sarah, the events coordinator, was super responsive via email over the last 6 months as we planned the event. We rented the full banquet room (max 80 people, we had 55) and it was spacious, clean, and beautiful with our minimal decor that we set up. We chose the lunch buffet (the menu to choose from was large!) and the food was plentiful and delicious. Even our gluten free guest was very happy with her meal that came straight out from the kitchen. During our event, our server Nicole was super helpful and kind. We were able to get beautiful pictures outside, as well as set up some yard games for guests to play. I would recommend Narcisi to anyone looking to host a small reception, party, or shower with great food & wine and beautiful outdoor space!

The atmosphere cannot be beat on a beautiful evening outside. The staff was very courteous and attentive and service and food and of course the wine were exceptionally good! I really would like to return before I return to Tennessee! Highly recommend this place!!

Laura B — Google review

The tasting was not very informative: the woman just told us “that’s red wine”, “that’s white wine”. They poured white wine in the same glass after red wine without washing the glass. The waitress was super impatient about boxes and check, I felt unwelcomed.

Summary: five stars when the weather is amazing and the outdoor space is open. 4 stars at all other times.Ever since they opened the beer garden this summer, it has been a go-to for date night when the weather is beautiful. Even though you have to go get the beers yourself while you're eating, I actually consider that a feature because it allows you to walk around the nice property. Our experience on a Thursday night, had good service outdoors, above average food, and some good local beer choices. The atmosphere is what gives it five stars. On a rainy, or winter day, there are better places to go. But when the weather is right, and the outdoor space is open, it will always be worth the trip. I am not a wine drinker and neither is my wife so check out other reviews for that information.

Justin B — Google review

Big shout out to Carly, who was very clearly exhausted from working a double shift, but tried her best to make our experience a good one. The bread and oil were fantastic, the wine was world-opening, and the overall entree portions were pretty decent!I’d definitely recommend this place for a casual night out.

Excellent atmosphere with stellar food. Dinner for 10 is always a challenge for staffing when eating out but Vanessa was spot on and she did an outstanding job taking care of our group. The food was excellent I believe everyone ordered something different from Pizza to chicken Parmesan, crab stuffed portobello mushrooms. We highly recommend you give this place a try.

Great restaurant, okay winery.Beautiful building and property with a good selection of food.Indoor and outdoor seating is available, not sure about dog friendliness... But there is plenty of room, and it wouldn't hurt to call ahead and ask!The staff is mostly younger and do not know much about the variety of wines they offer, besides the color...One of the best wineries in the area without going north to Erie.

Wine Tour & LunchI went for a wine tour with a party of 8. I had an amazing time. John was our tour guide he was extremely knowledgeable and passionate on the winery. The lunch downstairs was amazing as well I can’t remember our waiters name but he was extremely nice as well! We ordered bottles at our table and they recork the wine you don’t finish. It was a beautiful experience and I will be coming back! (Also everything was super clean)

I truly never ever leave bad reviews, but whoever answers the phone about reservations could truly not be more rude.I called to simply ask about reservations on Mother’s Day (which I assumed would be booked but wanted to double check) and she told me you were no longer taking reservations. Totally fine! Then I followed up to ask if the open seating outside allowed you to order food and was met with the most ridiculous condescending tone of “yeah but like it’s first come first serve”. To which I responded “that’s no biggie I just wanted to make sure we could order food if we did sit outside” and the response was “I mean like yeah you can but it’s gonna be like a three hour wait”.One, how could you have any idea it would be a three hour wait and two, I didn’t ask. I guess if you want people to not show up to try to get tables definitely let her keep answering the phones.

I loved my experience. My friends and I sat on the outside patio seating area. It really made you feel comfortable. It was a lively environment. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. The food was 8/10. My only negstive thoughts towards the food was the pasta came out luke warm and was slightly undercooked. But the flavor was delicious. My berry wine slushie was flavorful and refreshing, would get again. Overall great experience beautiful atmosphere. I would definitely come back.

This is a beautiful winery! The food was fantastic and so was the staff. They have a gift shop and a few bars on the property as well. I highly recommend if your looking for a nice meal and a great glass of wine.

Narcisi Winery isn't as far away as I thought and I'm so glad my folks suggested going there. It's beautiful. The service was amazing. The wine was delicious (they also had a delicious wine slush my dad saw on the menu, perfect for a hot day), and the food was great. I can't wait to return to try more of the menu.We ordered a bottle of wine and I had a wine slush, but I had missed the wine flight options on the back of the wine menu. I should have asked - next time, I will definitely get a flight to try, so I can sample more of the wine.I highly recommend the winery for lunch, dinner, or events. It's such a beautiful location and everything was wonderful.

Botanical garden

The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a world-renowned conservatory that was founded in 1893. The botanical garden features gardens of all types, including floral displays, tropical plants, and a greenhouse.

There will never be enough times you can visit this beautiful and unique place. You can really take your time and self-tour so many different exhibits throughout the building. What’s even more incredible is the dedication that is readily apparent throughout each room. You can clearly tell that much thought and effort has been put into making this as beautiful as it is.100% recommend for a therapeutic, relaxing and fun time.

Courtney S — Google review

Very beautiful and large place, mainly indoors but I would recommend going on a nicer day so you can get the full experience of the outer section as well. If you’re a plant lover, you will absolutely love this place. There’s a lot selection of plants and trees. There were little signs that have information about what you were looking about, and fun facts about them. During our visit there were a lot of exhibits that were closed because they were working on them. The first look inside was breath taking. If you’re visiting Pittsburgh you definitely have to visit this spot !

Veronica G — Google review

Incredibly charmed. The many many gorgeous plants! The impressively dedicated sustainability-inspired fashion show! The lovely green-haired lady celebrating her wedding in a flower crown! The small children running about delightedly in the garden! The happy bees! The cute little environmentalist health food cafe! Overall so impressed by how much this obviously felt like a labor of love by the people who built it and who continue to maintain it. Highly recommend.

Amazing!! Went here with a friend and had such a great time! We were there when the Billy Porter display was up and it was not only beautiful but so interesting as well! Even if that display is gone, I don’t doubt that any other display they put up will be just as good! The conservatory itself was beautiful too. There were so many different rooms like a desert room and a fruit and spice room. The Japanese Garden is an absolute must see and if you want some amazing vacation photos, this is the place!

We just went for their Christmas light display, and it was truly amazing. They have many beautifully executed displays with so many rooms and outdoor features. Phipps feel like a world-class experience. The plants, flowers, and botanicals from all sorts of climates were on display and matched tastefully with the Christmas lights. I look forward to seeing this again. I think it will be worth a visit in any season.

This place was amazing. The variety of plants, ferns and flowers that were there to see was awesome. Easily spent 2 hours just walking through the whole place except the Japanese garden and the cacti area which were closed. They also have a nice cafe and gift shop. Must visit for people who like nature.Few of the walkways were too narrow for a regular size wheel chair to fit through but i did notice visitors in wheelchair.

What a wonderful place! The floral displays are outstanding and I never miss their seasonal shows for Spring, Summer, Fall and Christmas/Winter! They also often have an amazing train display for the winter season. Parking on the "Island" in front of the Conservatory on Schenley Drive is free... and on Sundays all street parking is also free. Their cafe also offers good options for lunch or a snack or beverage. I highly recommend a visit here if you are touring around Pittsburgh.

Stunning displays right now of a collaboration with Billy Porter! The majority of the gardens Is all indoor domes, the orchid area was my favorite! Definitely need at minimum an hour, but recommend planning for two if you want to feel encapsulated and go through everything. The restaurant has nice options as does the gift shop albeit being on the pricey side. We saw a wedding taking place there, lovely venue for that!

I had the pleasure of visiting Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens last week, and it was truly a delightful experience. The place exudes coziness, and the excellent services added to the overall charm. One of the highlights was exploring the diverse gardens they have to offer. From vibrant flower displays to serene green spaces,The attention to detail in creating a welcoming atmosphere and the variety of gardens make Phipps Conservatory a standout destination. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a botanical escape in Pittsburgh.

This is my favorite place in Pittsburgh. I have had a membership for quite a few years and it’s one of the best gifts I get myself every year. The shows are beautiful and every season they outdo themselves. It’s beautiful and peaceful. I bring family and friends and children. The holiday show cannot be missed.

Johannah C — Google review

Beautiful. The winter wonder light show was amazing. It was pouring down rain when we went and it was still amazing! Had to purchase tickets in advance as they only allow so many at a time. It flowed so nicely. You had enough time to enjoy and look at things without being surrounded by people. We also went on a Tuesday evening though! Will definitely return next year!

Perfect Saturday for a visit to Phipps Conservatory. Elegant, beautiful and tranquil gardens. A feast for the senses. Fun, accessible, free parking and excellent for adults and children alike. Friendly and helpful staff. Cute cafe. It was nice to get there early before the crowds to take the time to thoroughly enjoy each section more than once. Loved it. What a treasure.

This place is amazing and beautiful. If you like to be surrounded by plants and flowers, and enjoy a quiet/fresh environment, this is a must if you are in Pittsburgh. I recommend to buy tickets in advance specially if is a high season or if there is some particular exhibition happening. You will spend around 2hours if you take it slowly.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens proved to be a captivating retreat immersed in the allure of nature’s beauty. The curated plant displays and thoughtfully crafted gardens offered a serene escape from the everyday. A standout moment was the mesmerizing Tropical Forest Conservatory, where I felt transported into a lush rainforest realm. One delightful surprise was the showcase of Billy Porter’s fashion, adding an artistic and fashionable dimension to the garden’s appeal. The emphasis on sustainability and educational initiatives further enriched the experience, making it a must-visit for both nature enthusiasts and seekers of serene tranquility.

We went here around Christmas time and they had every room dressed to the nines for the holidays. It was absolutely beautiful! I recommend buying tickets ahead of time just to be sure you'll get in, buy we bought ours at the window in the lobby when we entered. Every room of the garden was more gorgeous and breath taking than the last. They even had a room full of miniature train scenes of Pittsburgh. The gift shop in the lobby was also really cute, with lots of little treasures to remember your visit. I would definitely recommend Phipps Conservatory and Gardens for all ages!

Anytime of year, Phipps is a must visit. Their Christmas show has an amazing light display. The Spring and Fall shows are amazing and there is always something blooming. Don’t forget to look high and low, always love spotting a bunch of bananas.Whether you live in the Burgh or are just in town, Phipps is a must stop! Advanced tickets are not a bad idea but unless it’s the Christmas show, generally not needed.

"The Phipps Conservatory Light Show in Pittsburgh is a magical experience that brings the holiday spirit to life. The stunning display of lights, synchronized to festive music, creates a mesmerizing and joyful atmosphere. The attention to detail and creativity in the light arrangements is truly commendable. It's a perfect family-friendly event, leaving everyone in awe of the holiday magic. Phipps Light Show is a must-visit during the festive season for a heartwarming and visually spectacular evening."

What a wonderful visit! We arrived at 4pm on a Thursday and had the opportunity to enjoy the inside basically all to ourselves and still see the lights outside once night fell. Bonus, we even got a lovely western PA sunset in the mix. As always the decorations are amazing, the visit was well worth it!

I had such a nice time at Phipps yesterday afternoon. We ordered tickets online and were able to walk in easily/quickly bypassing the lines. Since we went on a Sunday the parking area nearby was free. We spent about 1.5-2 hours here just walking around checking out all of the flowers/displays. Everything was so nice and since we got there early we seemed to have beat the crowds. I believe they change up their displays, but I’m not sure of the changing frequency. I bet it’s always pretty cool though. They also have a cafe and pretty cute gift shop. Overall we had a great day and I’m excited to have gotten a chance to go!

Beautiful and well mapped out with friendly staff. The different rooms consisting of different climates was amazing. I’m not even a plant lover and was still fascinated. Would be nice to visit at different times of the year to see the different blooms.

This is a place you definitely don't want to miss. No matter if it's an individual or for a family with kids/seniors, definitely worth visiting! It has covered most popular plants from all over the world. Good to see the details or just browsing around. It took me one hour for the tour. Some of the areas were very hot because of the simulation of tropical areas. We did have great fun come visiting here. Strongly recommended!!

I've photographed many weddings at Phipps and it's one of my favorite venues in the area. The greenery, flowers, and landscaping are all impeccable and it's a photographer's dream to have so many unique and inspiring locations for photos. I'm always excited to shoot here. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful indoor gardens! We greatly enjoyed our time here… everything was Christmas themed which was pretty neat. We really enjoyed the Hawaiian rainforest and the main room with the all the train sets and little villages set up. The children loved that room and didn’t want to leave it! The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, a huge plus! Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely gorgeous conservatory and botanical garden. We visited during the holiday season and the festive decorations were magical and completely transformed the scenery. It was crowded on a Saturday night but to be expected given the season and the beauty. We didn't mind at all and everyone was polite and just there to have a good time. Even if you don't love botanical gardens I'd highly recommend checking out Phipps, it's one of the best.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is located in vast area of 15 Acres. It was built in 1893 The same was added to National Register of Historical Places in 1976. The theme of the tropical conservatory will change once in three years. Presently Hawaii theme is there. There are different parts of the conservatory called 1. Palm Court having different types of palm trees 2. Serpentine Room in which the exhibit plants change with the season 3. Fern Room in which many kinds of ferns and cycads 4. Orchid Room which has many kinds of orchids 5. South Conservatory which has seasonal flower shows 6. Tropical Forest Conservatory has waterfalls, fish pond etc. It takes one to two hours to visit entire area.

Came for the Christmas lights and they do an excellent job.Really beautiful place to get in the spirit of the holidays.I will knock of one star because this place gets more crowded than Disneyland. Seriously, there are parts, where you are essentially in one long line, body to body, throughout a few of the sections.Overall though, would still suggest it.

My husband, daughter, & I visited here on Christmas Eve Day during our first trip to Pitt. and I’m so glad we did! We were all so impressed with the time and details of all of the displays/gardens! Absolutely beautiful!! While we didn’t get to see the lights at night, it was still worth every minute!!

This is a quiet, beautiful place to go on a rainy day! The only downside to visiting during inclement weather is missing the outdoor displays. The spring show is lovely. Purchase tickets online in advance. The only slots available when we looked 4 days in advance were in the evening. There are construction issues that affect traffic and parking, so be sure to research things before traveling in.

Stadium

Sights & Landmarks

PNC Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, is a classic stadium with beautiful architecture and a large fan base. The stadium has hosted all sorts of events, from major league baseball games to concerts. The views of the city are wonderful and the food at some of the restaurants nearby is great.

Great place, great view. Recommend to attend a game here. Huge parking lot available around, relatively cheaper rates starting 8$. Will recommend to come early for the game and enjoy the snack bar and drinks, and you might also get a chance to have game ball when teams are practicing. Escalator available to go up the levels and merchandise store are also present around entrance.

Kapil — Google review

Absolutely stunning park. Gorgeous backdrop of the famous and jaw dropping Pittsburgh Skyline full with Yellow Bridges and all. Decent atmosphere at game, fans were slow to start, however as the game progressed, the game became more and more exciting. The two teams, (Hometown Pirates, and the Visiting Atlanta Braves) delivered a great performance coming down to the wire in the 9th inning. Would 100% recommend for the view alone. The baseball is an added bonus.

We went to see the Cubs play.. WOW..great ball park! The interaction with the fans was great and so inviting. The fans had such team spirit and showed great sportsmanship as well. Did not disappoint.. the fireworks after the game where freaking amazing! Best show I had ever seen! Thank you Pittsburgh for a great weekend!

Not a bad seat in this park! Food options were great, but high priced as all our sporting event venues. The chicken wings were amazing!Staff are helpful. We were in town and took in a game. It was a wonderful experience.I did pay $40 for a message to be displayed at end of 5th inning. I saw a lot of messages but mine was never shown. 😞

My wife and I went on the PNC park stadium tour. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of all aspects about the teams history and all of the parks history. Being in the dugout and checking out the suites and the press box was super cool. I can't wait to catch my first Pirates game this year!

Visited in 2012. It still ranks in my top 3 baseball stadiums, I've ever visited! The concourse is amazing, tons of food options, & the outside of the stadium, has some of the coolest statues you'll see! The stadium has great views of the city, the bridges beside it, add to the experience! Beautiful stadium!

I was asked what I wanted to do for my birthday a couple of months ago. My answer was go to a Pirates game or Mexico. I was thrilled when my birthday came and my love sent me a picture of my Pirate ticket. We arrived and parked with no problem in parking lot 2 gold walked to a little bar outside the park and had a cold beverage while waiting to get in the park. The staff checking all of the fans in were pleasant, polite and helpful. The selection and ease of purchasing snacks and beverages was one of the great parts of my experience as I did not miss but a few moments of the game while using the facilities. Section 119 row DD seat 1 and 2 is where we sat I loved the crow and would sit in that section again. In reality I would love to attend as many home games as there are but will most likely make it a yearly tradition to get a game around my birthday again. This was the most fun I have had as a birthday adventure in years.

PNC is always a great venue, whether for a Pirates game or concert. Seats are tapered nicely to give everybody a good view. Everything is pretty clean and the food is good. Minus one star for prices. They gouge pretty deep for beers and mixed drinks. Otherwise a great establishment.

They claim this is the best ball park in mlb. I definitely would say it is up there. Had some rain but will still put it right up there . The food was good. Had a wide variety of beers and bar selections. Seems like you get a good view from everywhere. I'm sure summer time this place is a party

Doug A — Google review

We went to a Dodger/Pirates game and it was a great experience. I took a 22 year old and a 2 yo. The park was clean, Well staffed, and easy to get around. I felt very safe the entire time. Staff was awesome about upgrading our seats - I was worried the 2yo would fall as we were pretty high up. However the upper deck seats were beautiful with a view of the game and the city.People around us were also there just to have a good time. Food and drinks were a bit pricey, but that's to be expected and way cheaper than back in the bay area. There are a lot of cheap parking options well within walking distance.Loved all the little restaurants and pubs with open and outdoor seating right outside the park piping the game through speakers.Pittsburgh deserves a better reputation!

Julia N — Google review

After growing up here and having season tickets for years to Three Rivers then moving away, this was my first trip to either new stadium. It is fantastic. There really isn’t a bad seat in the place and would definitely go back and purchase a standing room only seat and just wander. Easy in and out from all gates, good food.

Sean M — Google review

Club seats are the best! If you are thinking of going to a Pirate game, spend the extra money and get club seats. The seats are padded and the environment is fantastic. It is worth every penny. First, the crowds are much smaller in the club seating area. There are short lines for food, and the food choices are great. Second, the restrooms are clean, much cleaner than the normal restrooms. It has a clubhouse atmosphere and it is all air conditioned inside. We sat in Section 209, row A seats 1 and 2 and they were great. We had a fantastic view of the game, and went it when we needed a break from the heat. There were no rowdy crowds, and you can get a table inside and watch the game for a bit while you are eating, or taking a break from the sun. I think the best part about the club seating is that the seats are padded. You can sit, watch the game, and never get uncomfortable. It was a great experience and one of the best ways to beat the crowds and to have good amenities. The tickets are a bit more, but you will have a great experience.

Christopher S — Google review

Awesome ball park and atmosphere! Even though the team itself is not very good, the stadium gets a solid crowd of dedicated fans. There is a lot of places to eat and drink at, especially Manny’s BBQ owned by Pirates legend Manny Sanguillan. Sometimes you can even meet Manny in front of his place for a picture and an autograph!Everyone that works at the stadium that I interacted with was extremely friendly. The man at the ticket window even took his time to look for an aisle seat for me!They also have a lot of activities for kids on the first level, including a big playground overlooking the River.I purchased tickets the day of game at the ticket window. There are a few parking decks around. Many hobos begging for change line the walk to the stadium. All around a modern and awesome stadium and a fun place to watch a ball game!Hope this helps! Happy Travels!

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park and must say that it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked through the gates, I was struck by the stunning views of the city skyline and the river. The stadium itself is clean, modern, and designed with the fan in mind.I was pleased with the amenities available, including a variety of concession stands, comfortable seating, and a great selection of merchandise. The atmosphere was electric, with passionate fans cheering on their team and the staff doing an excellent job of keeping everyone engaged. The game itself was intense, with both teams putting on a great show. The Pirates put up a good fight but ultimately lost to their opponents. Despite this, I had an absolutely amazing time and would highly recommend attending a game at PNC Park to anyone who loves baseball or wants to experience the excitement of a top-notch stadium.

Great ball park! We visited for a work function and it was Amazing! The staff was friendly and the food was tasty. Definitely a blast!

A beautiful day for baseball. Parked at Ft. Duquesne deck and walked across Clemente Bridge into the ballpark. Great sight lines. Other than Primanti Bros. the food was average. Bathrooms are kind of hidden.

This is a great baseball stadium! It was very clean & orderly. Parking is easy & reasonably priced so that getting there isn't a challenge.

Fabulous park! Really nice! Well designed and great seats! Not a bad seat in the park! My only criticism is the concession stands are a bit slow..With ball games now with time limits on pitching etc, you can miss a lot of the game getting food and drinks. Still, first world problems...

Love the new art work of the various players . Love the new chicken choices too. I like the team stats on the board before the game. I wish the 50 50 vendors walked around more. No one sold in our area (121)

Very clean ball park. Several stations for self checkout that offered a wide variety of canned beers. Draft beer was limited in selection. It was cold and early season. Very few in stand concessioneers available. Biggest disappointment was selection of food and quality. The hot dogs and pretzels were served cold. Better food choices would make this a perfect park. The views of downtown were spectacular.

One of the most beautiful ballparks in MLB. They offer stadium tours which give you a chance to learn about the history of the Pirates and visit different parts of the stadium.

Not a huge baseball fan, but I love the ball park! Everything is layed out so well, and if you do get lost or turned about, the staff are always willing to help!! The staff really makes the park top notch!!

Not the first time I've been to PNC Park. Always a great experience. Great park, awesome view, friendly staff. Tickets for where we sat were a great value, talking bucket list kind of stuff, for a decent price. Being an Orioles fan, I'm used to a great stadium. I'm biased as OPACY is the best but you'll never go wrong here! Only downfall is the price of concessions but what was offered was an amazing selection. I'll be back many times and I urge everyone to take in a game here!

My visit to PNC Park was enjoyable! The park & restrooms were very clean. The park staff were very engaging. Entering and leaving the stadium was a breeze. We were able to find convenient parking nearby for a reasonable price. THEN we walked to the casino for dinner, which wasn't a far walk at all! There are plenty of other dining options around the park as well as other activities if you are looking to make a full day of it! We are fortnate to have such great sports teams in Pittsburgh & wonderful venues to enjoy them in!

PNC Park actually lives up to the hype. All seats are great, people are friendly and food was very good. I loved all the Roberto Clemente stuff. Wish I could have seen him play.

We really aren't Pirates fans, but we'd never been to PNC Park. It was wonderful!! Easy access parking, not overly crowded. We had a great time. Beautiful ballpark!

There's a reason people say it's the best park in MLB.. Great view inside but it has the small town feel on the outside. The people were all very friendly to me as well... Bucket list - check..

Absolutely beautiful ball park. The atmosphere is great and the view overlooking the downtown is incredible. Is definitely one of top 3 ballparks in the states. I would recommend any baseball fan to come visit. The game was followed by a 30 minute firework display that rivals Canada Day or 4th of July celebrations

Can see why its rated the top park in baseball. We took a drive from Cleveland to watch the Pirates and check out the stadium. It was a great day trip and the Pirates won 1-0! Right on the river, the views are gorgeous.Downsides are the food is more $, even compared to us and always double check what tickets include before you buy them. We got club seats thinking food and everything was included and they were not. So lesson learned 🤷‍♂️We will be back in July for the Wiz Khalifa bobblehead night!

Excellent experience! Very nice venue, great seats, tons of food and drinks choices, packed house with plenty of action on the field! An absolute must for any baseball fan! Very intimate field! We had an awesome view from right behind the Yankees clubhouse! Go Yankees!

Really great. Clean, the environment was very pleasant. We had so much fun . We loved the pizza and the pierogies with pulled pork it was our first time coming to this ball park and tasting the foods it was all great. We also loved the area for kids to play in and all the fun babble heads . We especially loved the pierogi race. 😍

The Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh offers a delightful ride on a beautifully restored wooden cable car, providing fantastic photo opportunities of the city's skyline and surrounding vistas. This historic mode of transportation has been running for almost 150 years and is a must-see attraction in Pittsburgh. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views from both the cable car and the observation deck at the top station, where there are also exhibits detailing the incline's history and its significance to Pittsburgh.

The ride is worth the wait. The view up top is good, but the ride from the from the back of the car is really unique. It is shaky and is not smooth, which made it a fun ride.

Make sure you have exact change in cash! $2.50 each way so $5 per person. No change or credit cards here. Great view of Pittsburgh and some cool spots to check out at the top of Mt Washington

Great spot to visit in Pittsburgh if you want that panoramic view of the city. Indeed breathtaking! Parking is provided and within good walking distance. Just didn't like the fact that you had to have the exact cash to provide, although there was a coin machine to swap out your bills just in case. Overall good experience

Ride the cable car At Duquesne Incline and see the best views of downtown PittsburghSo whenever you see pictures of Pittsburgh, I am sure you are looking it downtown with and cable car in the foreground. it is easily one of the best things to do in Pittsburgh. From the cars, there are great views out over the city. Once used to transport workers all the way back since the 1800s. they are still using two original 1877 cable cars, the Duquesne Incline is a working museum, with the upper station providing photos and displays on the history of the incline. at the top, you can also see the working mechanism, wheel, and all.I don't know if it is the norm, but there was a guide in our cabin and he gave a brief idea about incline history, and how it come into the picture. Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963 and still delights residents and visitors with its original, elegant, wooden cable carsParking: $10 and that's valid for 24 hours. Parking is more expensive than tickets which are just $5. You don't pay at the counter, you put the exact amount in a cylindrical box (nobody checks what you are putting in the container). a counter lady comes in a while and shoves it with a stick. i have never seen a system like this.if you want to experience a slice of the city’s long history, go for it.

Very beautiful and historic place. The incline has been running since the 1800's. Its been a must see location in Pittsburgh for many years. My son and I went for our 1st but not last visit. The views of the city are spectacular. Many different ways to get great photos. On the cable car and at the top on the observation deck. At the top there are lots of exhibits that outline some of the history of the incline and cars. It also depicts interesting history of Pittsburgh. It is so cheap that a family could afford this fun and educational excursion. Ill definately be back with more of my family. Take cash and exact change. A round trip for 2 adults is $10. They are friendly and nice enough to let you go ahead and ride. You can get change at the top. Either from the gift shop or an ATM.

This is a an essential stop! Parking is quick and easy, wait time isn't long at all, and photos will never do this view justice.

Susan P — Google review

Rode the incline up and down as part of an excellent sightseeing tour offered by Molly's Trolleys. There is a panoramic view at the top of Pittsburgh from the north side. The ride is in a no-frills vintage car and there are antique photos in the waiting area.

Barb ( — Google review

Really nice place but a bit expensive...the feel of the ride is awesome...you need to pay for parking for nearly $10 and for the price available on the website.

Jay P — Google review

A must do for visitors to Pittsburgh.Take yourself back to the past when this was common transportation up and down the mountain.Awesome view of the City from the top.$5 roundtrip. Exact change cash only.

Paul J — Google review

whoa! this is such a unique experience. Its definitely the more historic-feeling of the 2 inclines. Both inclines are wonderful but I love the vintage nuance of Duquesne. Just keep it functional and absolutely preserve the wabi sabi aesthetic pls Pittsburgh, otherwise don't change anything - its beautiful! thx
